This isn’t only about District Nurses being in clinical roles, it’s about those in strategic roles understanding the VALUE &thinking skills of DNs. Strategy needs to be led by ppl who understand the nuances of delivering clinical care in a domestic environment. @theqicn.bsky.social @rcn.org.uk
District nursing is in a dire state, and the latest report from @nuffieldtrust.org.uk shows a worse than feared collapse in the workforce.

Westminster government’s ambitions to shift care from hospital to community will fail unless the district nursing workforce is rebuilt. ⬇️

This is proactive preventive use of services.

Maybe open referrals from District Nurse / UCR teams who will be able to name the people in their communities who would benefit from CGA type review?
Currently:
1. Reaching out to GP/AHP
2. Triaging general medical referrals so we see older ppl.
3. Extending offer to see appropriate ppl referred to other specialty eg colorectal/cardiology.
4. Great conversation with ENT colleague today. Plans to divert older people referred with 'instability'.2/2

I’ve been thinking a lot about how frontline nursing has changed — not just in what we do, but in how we lead. We’re no longer just implementers. We’re assessors, coordinators, advocates — and we need tools that actually support that. 1/ 🧵

Really interesting debates and discussions from so many senior leaders across health and social care.
Refreshing to hear people holding each other to account. Haven’t we been having this conversation (hospital to community) for years? What’s stopping us from starting?

Equal excitement and nervousness about joining the panel for a discussion at #FutureNurse Conference in London on Monday.

Pro: I get to meet @antoniafrost.bsky.social in real life!

Con: I’ll have to introduce myself with a fancy little bio

Tips welcome from any seasoned public speakers

Only 30% of pall care is NHS funded.

Given today's vote, will Keir Starmer at least commit to dramatically increasing palliative care provision so that patients don't "choose" to end their lives because we, society, fail to give them the care that might make life worth living?
