went to bed at 11pm on Saturday and basically slept until 4:30pm Sunday except for the briefest of semi-lucid moments to eat. then spent about 5 hours awake and went back to bed until 9am

lost an entire day to sleeping sickness but now I feel great

bodies! so inscrutable

one of the most frustrating things that happens at work is starting the sentence "someone should" and then realizing that the someone is you

i'm designing an entire curriculum for my child based on this post
Today my Gen Z friend and I were talking about vintage tech, and she asked me what “the box under the screen” was called. I feel BAD about how loud I shouted “THE COMPUTER???” (“No, the box the screen sits on.” “THE COMPUTER???” I shouted again, even more rattled now)

These are skills you hope to never have to use (I've now used them twice, once on my own child) but staying in practice will help you be able to actually deploy them when every second counts.

The week after my incident happened, another parent I know had their nanny call them from the playground because their child was choking and the nanny didn't know what to do. Fortunately, another nanny at the playground came to the child's aid and they were okay before the parent could speed there.

[Please take a CPR class if you have young kids or are around them often, and learn what choking actually looks like. Real choking doesn't look like what you see on TV, it's quiet because you can't make noise when you're not getting air.]

Realizing that my then-toddler's weird behavior was him choking on some food and giving him the Heimlich as he turned gray – probably took 20-30 seconds of real time to resolve, my hands didn't start shaking until a few minutes after it was over and the what-ifs kept me up for hours that night.

New way to help: donate Delta Skymiles to get people home to Minnesota if they're released from detention in Texas.
Okay! This has already inspired a bunch of DMs, so I made a page on the website. If you have 50,000+ Skymiles and would be willing to book flights to get someone home, please fill this out.
