And all because the lady loves Milk Tray.

In a very particular order: publisher, editor, bass player, dad.
Inevitable post on the street WhatsApp group:

“Can anyone recommend a GasSafe engineer to do a boiler service who also has a PhD in particle physics?”
Heating homes with the world’s largest particle accelerator

Now operational, a new heat exchange system is reusing hot water from part of the Large Hadron Collider’s cooling system to heat homes and businesses in the local area.

Language changes for better and worse.

Better is when we get new words that help communicate new ideas or finer nuances.

Worse is when nuance of meaning is lost. Eg when “epicentre” just comes to mean “centre”.

People just throw around “epicentre” because it sounds cleverer than “centre”.

PING, PING, PING goes my phone. 😡

If the school sends an email with a letter why is there always someone who feels the need to post that same letter to both the year group WhatsApp group and the class WhatsApp group?

We all got it on email already!

“So your new carol is just eight verses of you demanding figgy pudding with increasing hostility.”

“That’s right.”

“And it’s called We Wish You A Merry Christmas?”

“Yes”

“Buts it not really about Christmas is it? It’s mostly about figgy—“

“—figgy pudding yeah.”

I’ve never had products on my hair at the barber. But when they offer, “Do you want stuff on your hair?” I wish they would sell it a little better. “Stuff”? No, thanks!

@jonathanfreedland.bsky.social I always tune in to Politics Weekly America. I wonder whether it might be more interesting to have the guest bring their own “What else?” question so you get their insight. Worth a try?

You know you buy too many books when you pick one you forgot you bought and it can’t have been long ago coz it was on top of the pile.

The Misleading Panic over Misinformation
People can’t agree on how to define misinformation and its related terms, making regulation nearly impossible. Instead, free expression serves as a better tool for discovering truth.

I want it scrapped but please for the love of god, it's the two child tax credit cap, not child benefit cap. Child benefit is a separate benefit to child tax credits. The latter is capped to two children since 2017 and must be scrapped.

@mitchbenn.bsky.social I remember seeing you doing this gag live somewhere near Fleet Street in 1999 / 2000 / 2001 – a long time ago anyway. The oldies are the goodies!

For Maths fans, 2025 is a square.
45² = 45 x 45 = 2025
Also,
9² x 5² = 2025
40² + 20² + 5² = 2025
My favourite?
1³+2³+3³+4³+5³+6³+7³+8³+9³ = 2025
