Can we talk more about the list of "covered events" in the Tesla/Musk $1T pay package, which is basically a reverse force majeure clause that gives the board an excuse "to pay out" money even if Musk doesn't meet milestones? WTAF??

I have written this piece for Slate. It begins: If Democrats and those on the left want to draw one lesson from the lopsided 64–36 victory of Proposition 50 in California earlier this week, it is that...

Chris Hayes nailed it: Every single county in Virginia swung toward Democrats—yes, even the rural ones.

This wasn’t a normal election. It was a RECKONING.

Voters chose sanity over chaos, progress over decline.

I have watched this work locally. When things are going terribly and the local GOP abandons their people and the local dems show up with food pantries and stuff to help anyone who needs it. It bleeds through the noise. Sometimes it radicalizes them into our cause.

But we get NO support down here.
It doesn’t matter what I think. Also, none of this would ever happen. But if I had a zillion dollars:

1. Run a “we do hard things” campaign across southern and rust belt states. Invest heavily in local, state and regional social infrastructure. Sponser later hours at a library, build a skate park…
If I were to sum up my advice to the Democratic party leadership about how to defeat Trumpism, it would be to set aside policy for now and focus instead on articulating a vision of what American society should look like and what role the US should play in a rapidly changing world today.

He's an awful and terrible human being, but I'm also pretty sure his brain is fried.
Elon Musk, "These lovely small towns in England, Scotland and Ireland, they've been living their lives quietly. They're like hobbits"

"And so one day, 1,000 people show up in your village of 500 and start raping the kids"

"This has now happened, God knows how many times in Britain"

You could make equally plausible arguments that:

1. Increased TSLA/Musk support drove MAGA voting
2. Increased MAGA voters purchased Tesla vehicles
3. Confounding variable drove both trends

Perfect example of correlation with uncertain causality.

When a 21-year-old Black student is found dead on a Mississippi university campus, the official explanation is often swift: suicide.

But for the family of Trey Reed, that story is beginning to crumble, exposing deep-seated distrust in a state still haunted by a long history of violence.

Nearly 30% of the Dodgers who played in Game 7 were immigrants.

An immigrant:

- from Japan was the starting pitcher

- from Japan was the winning pitcher (different guy)

- from Venezuela hit the game-tying home run in the top of 9th

- from Cuba made the game-saving catch in the bottom of the 9th

Truly insane.
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

I've been out of academia for 30 years, so no idea if there might be something viable here or not. However, this strikes me as one of the most refreshing POTENTIAL steps forward in a generation.

May or may not work, but it's a real re-thinking of the underlying assumptions and current paradigm.

I'm shaking almost too hard to type. I entered SLC airport and heard screams and cries for help. I could see people gathered around, watching. I sped over to discover this woman face down on the floor, four grown men pushing her down, while she cried "HELP ME" and pled for her child.

CALIFORNIA: THE BIGGEST ECONOMY, THE BIGGEST TARGET.

The 4th largest economy in the world, bigger than the UK or India. Tech, film, food, energy — it drives the nation.

Trump hates that California proves progressive policies work. That diversity creates strength. That innovation beats grievance.
