It's #RandomGameSaturday and this week I've dug Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy out of the loft. Like other Douglas Adams adaptions, this was "the same, but different" to the books (and radio shows). Back in the day I got stumped trying to make a cup of tea on the Heart of Gold.

I had the Amiga version and played it a lot during my university days. In my eyes things went from the various american football games having comparative strengths and weaknesses to Madden simply being the best in every category.
35 years ago, I was playing the absolute crap out of this. John Madden on Mega Drive was an absolute revelation - a fantastic sports sim that evolved the genre by a huge step almost overnight. It not only helped me learn how the sport works, but fall in love with it. Go Niners!

The pic is just to lure people in.
I had a very interesting chat this evening, and one of the subjects was community. It really made me realise just how much a part of everything I do is now about building communities.
It's a slight echo chamber question for here, but how important is it to you?

Time for #RandomGameSaturday and this week it's Neverwinter Nights! Unfortunately I've still never really played it. Each time I installed it I then spent hours tracking down the patches and getting things working which sapped my will to actually play it. I have it on Steam, so maybe this year!

So, today I'm announcing a new book project... and doing a call for papers: crpgbook.wordpress.com/2025/10/31/t...

It's an anthology of video game history outside the usual US perspective - an accessible & exciting panorama of different realities - and I'll pay 300 USD per article.

Please share :)
The Video Game History Expansion Pack – Pitch your story
Today I’m putting my money where my mouth is and launching a new project — a book focused on game history outside of the usual North American perspectives.

What a pleasure it was to host Professor Steve Furber CBE today. A thoroughly entertaining talk and an insight into some incredible projects he’s worked on.

Thank you to everyone who came along and shared the day.

For #RandomGameSaturday here is Super Sunday, which I got for Xmas in 1987 after I'd read the Zzap64 review earlier in the year. It's the only C64 game I've still got, kept it because of the unusual box.

Shiny new eBay account, first purchase: old things 😀

I had the first volume and a few extra issues back in the 80s, been regretting getting rid of them for a while.
