I had the opportunity to review the new album by Irish artist CMAT for @popmatters.com. It's catchy, compelling, and a standout musical exploration of millennial femalehood in late-capitalist Western culture.
Country pop's CMAT offers a profound statement choreographed to a contagious mixture of alt-country, soul-pop, and indie pop sensibilities.

CMAT's 'Euro-Country' is a #PMPick out now via @awalofficial.bsky.social.

Y’all.

Still riding the vibe from yesterday's toke on the "Mamdani victory is bad news for the Democrats" pipe, Ross Douthat looks at his remaining chips, utters "screw it", and shoves them all towards the middle of the table.

Ross Douthat makes a very comfortable living from gaslighting and sane washing. Meanwhile, a significant influencer in his party just platformed Nick Fuentes. But do go on with the "nothing to see here", Ross.

"Believe me when I say to you, I hope the Russians love their children too."

@daviddark.bsky.social channeling Flannery O'Connor has me thinking about Sting. As Dark says, "Art *plays* with limits and overcomes them." Everything that rises must converge. #EverydayApocalypse

One of the great inspirational scenes of 20th century cinema.
It happened again:
I start watching A NEW HOPE. At first it's childish, clumsy, ridiculous even, but when the suns set, Luke looks into the distance and the John Williams strings come in, I'm fully committed. By the Cantina scene I'm totally immersed in the adventure. Still a lovely movie #filmsky

I recently got to review 'Scratch It', the latest album from Meg Remy's art pop project, U.S. Girls for @popmatters.com. It experiments with the sonic topography of Nashville to further explore the emotional landscape of vulnerability and materiality.

Real talk.
Now that there's a new movie, I hope we can have a civil discussion about "Superman's Song" by the Crash Test Dummies (1991) understanding the heart of Superman better than most, and people only make fun of it because they were raised to hate baritones.
