Voters want a Democratic Party that fights back against the forces that have rigged the system and made their lives more difficult.

A party that comforts the afflicted and afflicts the comfortable —not a party that buckles and capitulates.

When will party leadership learn this lesson?

Is there an Ig Nobel for peace?
FIFA announced this week that it is creating its very own “peace prize” and will declare its first recipient next month in Washington, D.C. FIFA’s president, Gianni Infantino, is a close ally and friend to Trump.
FIFA Announces New “Peace Prize,” Weeks After Trump Fails to Win Nobel Award
The award comes as FIFA is under fire for refusing to sanction Israel and Saudi Arabia for their human rights abuses.

A good take on no kings day 2. Apparently, not a single incident with police in NYC, among the hundreds of thousands out marching. It was as peaceful and joyous a march as I’ve seen.

While MAGA’s spin was both insane and revealing, the No Kings Day 2 Marches were a major step towards taking our country back.

First they come for the academics. <gestures widely> Witness the carnage.

Then they come for justice and lawmakers.

Trump wanted James Comey prosecuted. Now he is indicted.

Where we stand, in long arc of history:

-Story on left, adding race as a factor when that favors white people.

-Story on right, banning race as a factor when that favors non-whites.

I often complain about NYT headlines and story-play. But these are strong. Including "If Court Guts 1965 Law."

Solidarity politics wins.

Purity politics loses.

Every single university needs to firmly stand united on this.

This has always been the plan.

Divide and make examples of specific universities, then attack every single center of higher education in the country.

Fascists always come for the academics first. Then the judges. Then...

I’ve been sitting with this the last few hours. It’s really hitting me just how fucking depraved you have to be to respond to an inquiry about an abducted child with a screenshot of a post on elon musk’s hellsite smearing this kid who has no ability to defend himself. It’s unfathomable.

Good post with a good argument about universities and the "compact", basically the same argument that applies to law firms

If this is how the leadership responds to extortion threats that go against their values, why would you trust them to protect your interests?

I don’t know about “only”, but yes it is a good source among a dwindling pool of good sources.
Just a reminder that Wikipedia is the only remaining reliable source of information that right wing billionaires can't control. (Although they'll never stop trying.)

Please donate to them whenever you can. Even a little bit helps.

Minor Sunday gripe: Why do some scientific journals truncate author lists? For example TiCS and TiNS list “first author, et al” for any paper with 3 (!) or more authors. It can’t be about space: they do this both for PDF and online layout. Who does this serve? Curious if there’s a good reason.
