agree with this (hah) but also think a particular mistake the left made for a long time online, and still makes to an extent, is failing to understand that the person whose mind you may actually change is the one reading the argument you're having, not the one you're arguing with
The secret to engaging in social media debate is knowing you will never win anyone over. The best you can hope for is to have people who already agree with tell you you're awesome. You might great a dopamine thrill from the righteousness of your anger! Fine benefits, all. But you will never win.

Is it good or bad that an agency that is technically involved in law enforcement is using ideas from the serial killer playbook?
A female ICE thug posing as a distressed motorist in neighborhoods of Brooklyn Park (63% non-white), MN, to entrap good samaritans. This is the same MO Ted Bundy used to lure his victims to their demise.

Sometimes you wonder. Bloomberg this morning saying that you can't both believe that AI is a big deal and that we're in a bubble. But you absolutely can! That's exactly the story of the tech bubble of the 90s, major economic impact but not big profits. Sigh.

It’s that “people who should know better” thing that is the part that brings me down on social. Randos saying something dumb and getting a ton of likes? Not exactly inspiring, but not deflating. But “smart person with usually smart takes wallowing in self-righteous illogic”? That breaks me.
Several people who I know irl and should know better, have, in recent days, credulously shared conspiracy theories with me about the Epstein Files and Savannah Guthrie and idk I think everyone’s brains are getting worse.

I can't believe I'm saying this but LinkedIn has fully replaced what I used to use X for (work)...

While Bluesky has become something completely different which I haven't experienced online in over a decade: a fun space for connecting with people in ways only peripheral to work

I miss when you could post Brave Norman Rockwell Townsperson and the caption could be, like, “R.E.M was wrong to leave ‘Fretless’ off of Out of Time” instead of “The secret police should stop murdering people.”

The House of Tomorrow is a massively underrated spot in the MFing MFs discography. Specifically, underrated by me until recently.

Everyone should read this, but especially the people who are anti-AI but are willing to be open-minded and reasoning. Most people who don’t use AI for code VASTLY underestimate its abilities, dismissing it as just another version of a search engine. shumer.dev/something-bi...

Spent the past few days going deep on my Claude Code setup. The difference between using Claude Opus for hours a day and poking at free ChatGPT a few times a week is massive.

That gap also explains the wildly different reactions to Alex Schumer’s “something big is happening” post.

What's "funny" is that there's people out there who think that this is the only way people are using AI.
It’s so funny to think about the fact that there’s people out there deferring every life decision to this

YLT wasn't really on my radar at the time, and I know their output is massive, so I shouldn't be surprised to stumble on a song I didn't know and love it. And yet. Here I am.

Shrinking is sometimes a very funny show, and Jessica Williams is a force of nature, but I can never decide if all of the characters are the worst people on earth or are so badly written that they don’t bear any resemblance to realistic humans.

I don't object to doorbell cams and such, but I will say that I worked with a woman whose husband worked on the tech side of Amazon and was adamant that they not have Ring or Alexa anywhere in their house. So.
