just to provide a counterexample; I've been using linux full time for gamedev for over a year, and my experience has been:
- installation is pretty simple
- drivers, etc, everything worked out of the box
- all the software I cared about using works perfectly
- I never have to use Windows in a VM
- installation is pretty simple

Whats amazing is, thats not saturn UI. The game itself has some sort of OS, and that detected the crash and stopped the pinball game. This is so rare in a console game.
