Good evening. A beautiful, almost cloudless day in #Uist today. Stunning sunset, and, an hour later the colours in the sky are still amazing. #Benbecula #Hebrides #Scotland #Sunset

Aaagh! The skirting board under the kitchen sink has fallen off. Today’s challenge: ensure there are no kittens under there when reattaching it! 🙀😻🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🙄😂

Some 1,500 years ago, a child was buried with a set of game pieces made of animal bones.
Single game pieces are frequently found in early medieval graves in south-west Germany, but complete sets are rare.
Found in Herbolzheim, 500-550 AD.

Back in 1997, there were just 11 booming male Bitterns left in the UK – almost extinct. Thanks to conservation by @rspb.bsky.social and @naturalengland.bsky.social 283 booming males were recorded in 2024.

Les Cater shares his story and stunning photos of these rare birds ⤵️

“So it was, on that misty morning, that Brenda set off for the capital. She knew not what she would find there, only that the time had come to move on - away from small-minded rural attitudes and people who called her ‘Oreo’ and ‘the wide panda’ - to seek a more fulfilling life.”
