"Those black boxes of redaction are little black boxes of power. Some men are protected because they are worth something, while the girls look like parts, not human." What a piece this is by Helen Rumbelow, though not for the faint-hearted.

They show a hidden world oiled by porn-saturated misogyny. I spent two days reading them

If you're like me and love #6music but not necessarily between 1-4pm midweek, you can always instead listen to this particularly good episode from Guy Garvey, with Elizabeth Alker as guest. 13 days remaining before it's gone!
I highly recommend listening to Guy Garvey's show from this afternoon.
He chats to the amazing @elizabethalker.bsky.social, author of Everything We Do is Music: How 20th-Century Classical Music Shaped Pop, includes a bit on how The Beatles' Tomorrow Never Knows was made

#PoliticsLive featured this, including Kate Nash at the Culture, Media & Sport Select Committee, where she detailed the severe impact of new rules on performing arts tours within the European Union. It then cut back to the studio, where Vicki Young said..
"Kate Nash talking about OnlyFans there." 🙄
The story here is not that Kate Nash has an OnlyFans, it's that working class artists can't make a living anymore.
That means no Beatles, no Led Zeppelin, no Depeche Mode, no Cure, and no Bowie. It's cultural suicide.

Good thread from Joel, sparked a thought, is the problem that we've lost a make do and mend attitude? Everyone is so quick to throw the baby out with the bathwater, rushing toward the next big thing to get rich or just shout "first!", when we should be fixing what's broken, not introducing new.
At an industry event last night one (old media) journalist said “we may need institutions like the BBC because internet searches don’t return separate news stories now, but an AI summary that is usually wrong.”

Watching an industry shrug and surrender to a competitor that DOES NOT WORK.
