Intro to me. I’m Janie. I used to do Swift development, but I have been taking some time to learn C++ so I can build game engines and do low level rendering. I don’t have any current tech projects to talk about so I mostly talk about my pugs and my crafting projects to avoid going insane.

When a big media company uses genai slop instead of human made art, it is not just taking a job away from one artist to make that thing but *multiple* artists involved in all the things.

The entire artist-hiring pipeline gets destroyed in favor of chugging from the hot dogshit pipeline.

People want to believe that the GOP’s electoral success in red states is the result of dirty tricks and gerrymandering instead of the sincerely held beliefs of a majority of the population because a mechanical issue is easier to fix than wrestling with how to make people not believe what they do.

Something I wish got challenged more often in this “men in crisis” discourse is the blithe assumption (or sometimes outright assertion!) that everyone’s boss is a woman now. “Women now dominate white collar work and corporate management roles.” No they don’t. That just isn’t true.

This has been a very effective theatrical tactic on the right: collapsing the female-dominated HR structure (which developed explicitly to minimize employers’ obligations under civil rights law!) into a synonym for anti-discrimination law itself.

A basic lesson about oppressive systems: As they continue, they inevitably cost even the oppressors to maintain. Every time they're enacted it's for short-sighted benefits before then they fossilize into a societal feature maintained via inertia and prejudice even after all gains inevitably dry up.
NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

Kind of crazy that evidence is mounting that the world is run by a group of rapists, pedophiles, and men convinced of women’s inmate natural inferiority, and the pundit class is trying to convince us that the real social crisis is that men are victimized and lonely because women have too many jobs.
You just know that “Did Women Ruin the Workplace?” bit would have done NUMBERS in this little clique

I love the way each of the six baby crocodiles in this photo seems to have a completely distinct personality.
Top (l.-r.): Introvert, idealist, jerk
Bottom (l.-r.): Class clown, stoner, pessimist
By the mid-1970s, only 200 American crocodiles remained, their habitat largely gobbled up by sunseekers. But hope lurked in the shadows of a nuclear power plant—the same facility built to air-condition the homes that had led to the reptiles’ demise. Read more about this unlikely partnership:
