Municipal infrastructure is essential to Canada’s productivity & trade. New & reprofiled investments in #Budget2025 will help #CDNMuni move faster now, but a long-term plan to fund the infrastructure that makes national housing and growth goals achievable is still needed. More ⬇️

A transit advocacy group is warning new U.S. tariffs on buses coming into effect this weekend are going to upend the budgets of cities across North America — and eventually residents and riders.

The opposition threw amendment after amendment at ABC and there was ZERO effort to get to yes with a tiny exception that watered down one of them.

ABC will cry foul about this but I heavily doubt their good faith - they weren't interested in finding out how this could pass.
Big news out of Vancouver council: a proposal Ken Sim has long championed to create a city-owned business to develop sites for market rental housing has FAILED.

It required two-thirds majority because it involved selling land, but failed to get the support of the four opposition councillors.

The mayor’s last-minute tax proposal offered no details and no clear plan for how city services would be affected. Vancouver deserves facts and transparency, not political theatre.

Two good things about @rebeccaleebligh.bsky.social from what I have seen:
1. Works hard and listens to reason.
2. Fundamentally a decent and kind person. I wouldn't be very worried about corruption stuff if she were mayor and I think she'd give a lot of attention to homelessness/addiction.
Vancouver councillor Rebecca Bligh makes official she will run for mayor next year under a new banner of “Vote Vancouver”.

Bligh was first elected in 2018 with the NPA, left them, joined Sim’s ABC Party and was re-elected, before she was booted from ABC, mostly on divisions over social issues.

Yes, I second this.

@rebeccaleebligh.bsky.social was one of the key votes on climate action (stopping the mayor from backtracking on fossil gas in buildings) and she made a principled stand on supportive housing.

I think she’d be a great mayor.

Infrastructure might not be the trigger for the housing crisis, but it’s a major piece of the puzzle that can’t be ignored – and we can’t turn housing aspirations into reality without it.
