I don’t talk about it enough, but I’m a freelance TTRPG writer/editor! One of my early projects was Refractions of Glasston, which won a Judge’s Spotlight at the ENnie Awards in 2020. The PDF is free, so check it out to see my work!

Okay so- especially artists, folks in the TTRPG space, and all other sensible folks who hate AI-

Do this.

I did this to be sure. Guess what? They were present in the public Discord I run without even appearing as a member.
⚠️ ATTENTION DISCORD USERS ⚠️

Discord has quietly added AI scraping bots to all servers. They’re invisible, so they won’t show up on your member list, but they can be removed. See these instructions for how to ban them by ID:

Just finished a full day of running D&D for middle schoolers and high schoolers! It was a blast, but I’m exhausted!

If these dingdongs are willing to use stolen art in their TTRPG books, they're also likely to use AI to write their contents.

Just say 🚫 to Gates of Krystalia.
Rascal News is the only news site I know who's covered this in more depth. They're paywalled, but you should support them.

They exchanged some email with Dianin who said "All creators today use AI in some form. Saying ‘I don’t use AI’ is a lie."

(Bullshit.)
UK Games Expo criticized for promoting RPG with generative AI imagery
Gates of Krystalia’s creators insult commenters, struggle to explain provenance of LLM training material.

12 Days of Campaign-mas: Day 12

Gunderholfen is a mega dungeon campaign setting written for OSR games, but it can be reworked for any D&D-like game. I’d love to someday use this book to run an all dwarves campaign similar to the Hobbit. The misty mountains call to me! #TTRPG

12 Days of Campaign-mas: Day 11

Spelljammer is an enjoyable setting, but its D&D 5e version leaves a lot to be desired. If you’re planning to run your own Spelljammer game, I recommend finding some of the books for previous editions, or make it your own. Or both! #TTRPG

12 Days of Campaign-mas: Day 10

Stennard is a grimdark campaign setting for DCC from Breaker Press Games. Nick Baran, the creator of Stennard, is the DCC rep for my local convention, so I always enjoy picking up one of his products when I see him each year. #TTRPG

12 Days of Campaign-mas: Day 9

I’ve gotta give credit to the Forgotten Realms setting. The first adventure I ran was Lost Mines of Phandelver, and the first campaign I completed was Waterdeep: Dragon Heist. I’ve even met Ed Greenwood, the creator! It’s a rich world that many groups have explored.

12 Days of Campaign-mas: Day 8

I played in the Midgard setting during my first gaming convention, so it holds a special place in my heart. Kobold Press produces excellent books, and the Midgard Worldbook is no exception. It’s one of those settings that you can run TTRPG campaigns in forever.

12 Days of Campaign-mas: Day 7

Obojima is the campaign setting I use for my 1-on-1 D&D game with my wife (I call it D&D Duet). The setting aims to blend themes from Studio Ghibli and Legend of Zelda for an adventure with a very cozy feel. The art inside is fantastic and I love looking through it!

It’s so fun to see all the love for Honor Among Thieves these days. I saw this movie three times in theaters when it released, but I was bummed that the reception in the TTRPG space was lukewarm. It’s a movie I can watch again and again and still enjoy it.
If we lived in a just media landscape, this would now be a trilogy.

12 Days of Campaign-mas: Day 6

While not really unlicensed anymore, the Tal’dorei campaign setting was where I first played as a character in a long campaign. Even though I don’t follow Critical Role much anymore, I got into D&D because of Vox Machina. It has a special place in my heart.

12 Days of Campaign-mas: Day 5

Horror on the Orient Express for Call of Cthulhu has been on my TTRPG Mount Rushmore for a long time. This massive 2-volume campaign takes investigators across Europe in a series of linked stories. Someday I hope to run this for a gaming group!

Man, doing DnD via play by post is a lot of fun, but I feel like I’ve substituted one DM problem with another. Instead of players who are notoriously bad at scheduling, I now have players who are notoriously bad at texting me back!

12 Days of Campaign-mas: Day 4

Down Darker Trails is an Old West/Weird West campaign setting for Call of Cthulhu. These books bring together history, legend, folktale, and Lovecraftian horror in a special way that scratches all the itches. I’m looking forward to running this again in 2026! #TTRPG

12 Days of Campaign-mas: Day 3

Umerica is a fan setting for Dungeon Crawl Classics, and it’s been on my TTRPG wishlist for a long time. This post-apocalyptic world is full of gonzo characters and easter eggs to American icons. The jokes and references really brings this together for me.

12 Days of Campaign-mas: Day 2

The Duchy of Ashlar mini-setting by Raging Swan Press is a recent favorite of mine and I can’t get enough of it. It’s great for classic fantasy TTRPGs, and it’s easy to convert to any OSR game you want. I can see myself running campaigns here again and again!

12 Days of Campaign-mas: Day 1

If you’re looking to run a new TTRPG campaign in 2026, here are my favorites! Eberron was the first campaign setting I bought when I started playing D&D, and I run a play-by-post game in this world. The one downside is it can be a lot of reading for players.

Josh O’Connor calls The Last Jedi “so beautiful.” He said the ending hit him deeply, especially the idea that anyone could be a Jedi, remembering how he wept in theaters at the final image of the boy, calling it one of the most iconic and powerful moments in cinema history.
