I am sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Mahmoud. Mahmoud was a fifth year medical student before all this, now he’s just trying to help his family survive. His father died so he is responsible for his family which includes several small children and injured or sick family members.

Someone on X posted about how the forge scene in Numenor made them think of Sauron forging the One Ring in his Mount Doom Forge with Galadriel haunting him in the corner of the room. Is she a spectre he conjured in his loneliness or is she reaching out?

Anyway it gave me some inspiration!
"Don't do it." He almost didn't catch the gentle whisper from the corner of the forge. It couldn't be, could it? She had shut him out now for so long, built up barriers and walls so impenetrable within her mind that even his power had not been able to perceive her, no matter how hard he tried. But it was. He watched as she appeared from the shadows, stepping forward so quietly and so swifty it was as if she was made of smoke. Her bright golden hair is curling loosely to her waist, and she is wearing a turquoise dress, with long sleeves covering her hands. She looks like she did that night in the forge in Númenór when she had told him of the mutiny against her and how no matter what she did, she could not stop fighting. The parallels with himself had not gone unnoticed and he had never been so close to telling her who he really was, realising in that moment that they were so alike. Her eyes are wide and sorrowful as she takes him in, standing by the fire, tending to the flames to keep them at the constant high temperature needed to melt the last of the gold down to a molten liquid. "Please don't do this Halbrand." Halbrand. The name grates at him but he knows why she uses it. She can't bear what he has become. Perhaps he can't either.  And that is why he is here, posed to pour it all away and create his ring. He keeps his eyes on the fire, watching the blue sparks dancing along the edges of the melting crucible. "What are you, some form of divine intervention? Are you going to stop me?" She stops a few feet away from him, considering the question. "Do you want me to stop you?" He does not mean for the low growl to escape his lips as he turns to her in anger and irritation. He is so frustrated at her question, he hates how she makes him feel, even after all these years, ever since she swam towards his raft in the middle of the Sundering Sea. All he can do is shout at her as if that will finally make her see the truth. "What I want, Galadriel, is to have you by my side. I told you I would make you a Queen, that I would not have rested until all Middle Earth worshipped your light. And I would have been the greatest devotee of all!" His heart is hammering in his chest, his breathing fast as he watches her face to see if his words have affected her. He steps forward, but she does not flinch despite the wild, desperate look in his eyes. The same eyes that Halbrand had, autumnal like the forest. He may have changed other things about his appearance but not those. He reaches up to caress her cheek with his fingertips, leaving behind a grey smudge of soot. His voice this time is quiet and broken. "Please Galadriel." She doesn't speak; she simply looks at him. He sighs, running his hands agitatedly through his hair. "Why did you come here?" There’s a pause before she answers. "To say goodbye." The smile she now gives him is sad and she looks as lost as he does. Galadriel reaches up, placing one hand against his chest to steady herself and then her lips brush his in the briefest and softest of kisses. "Goodbye Mairon." He blinks, startled at that name and a single tear spills down his cheek. Then she is gone, whatever magic that was holding her together dissipates and all that is left is a golden haze in the air that drifts upwards with the smoke from the fire. That's it. It's too much. The dam inside his chest breaks and every emotion is pouring out as he screams and cries, feeling as if his heart is breaking. The rage. The malice. The grief. The loneliness. The hatred. The scorn. The shame.  The way she said, "I felt it too". He wants to get rid of it all. He doesn't want to feel it anymore. He wants to tear it from his being and turn it into power to shape and control and bring order. He takes it all and mixes it with the enchantments he casts in Black Speech, pouring his soul and essence into the molten gold simmering in the melting crucible in the fire.
