As always I am open to commissions from US soccer outlets on how the #JLeague has spent 3+ years preparing for its transition to fall-spring.
You’ve probably heard that the MLS Board of Governors is meeting this week to discuss, among other things, a move to the “European” schedule. My understanding is that there’s no way that happens in 2026, but there’s a very real possibility that it could happen in 2027.

This disaster keeps barreling down the tracks. Meanwhile, as @aishiterutokyo.bsky.social has reported on, Japan is doing their calendar switch right, with plenty of shared information for the clubs and the fans.

Why is this a much more cognizant and hopeful rationalization for the Democrats vote than anything the Democrats themselves put out?

If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Rough week for Tommy Smith's Braintree town. Lose their FA Cup match against a local rival Chelmsford City a league down on Saturday, lose the National League ex-Rapids derby against Jack Price's Brackley Town on Wednesday, and lose to Wealdstone today.

I don't think I've reported this publicly or not but: The Colorado Rapids pushed hard for Brian Gutierrez this summer. Was one of their top options after selling Djordje Mihailovic.

Colorado landed on a club-record deal for Paxten Aaronson, of course.
Dear Chicago Fire,

How much do you want for Brian Gutiêrrez? Deal.

Yours,

Pádraig Smith

New: The Chicago Fire has signed midfielder André Franco on a permanent deal from Porto. Club agreed new transfer fee after ACL injury.

Club also complete deal to sign Sweden int'l midfielder Anton Salétros.

Both Jack Price (Brackley) and Tommy Smith (Braintree) started and went the full 90 in today's National League ex-Rapids derby. Brackley won 1-0 on a second half PK and Price picked up a yellow card late for time-wasting

The result keeps Braintree in the relegation zone and pushes Brackley to 14th

I finally got a chance after my travel to watch the Smith/Demoff press conference from last week. I have lots of thoughts, most of which will come in a blog post tonight, but one thing I found interesting, but not surprising, was that there was one name not mentioned at any point.

Up 3-2 in the series?

Single-digit outs from winning game 7?

Still lose to a team who's been there more recently than you?

Yeah, I feel bad about that.

Now that their FA Cup games are in the book, Tommy Smith's Braintree Town hosts Jack Price's Brackley Town in National League action on Wednesday.

12:45pm Denver time, you'll need the DAZN National League package to see it here in the States.
