If the law prevents the federal government from acting to stop an obvious emergency, especially when the governments of Ottawa and Ontario had essentially abandoned the city of Ottawa to those hooligans, then the law is the problem, not Trudeau’s actions.
For the late/west coast crowd, my latest for @cba-nationalmag.bsky.social, and the reactions to the Federal Court of Appeal ruling on the use of the Emergencies Act #cdnlaw #cdnpoli

This is actually an indictment of the Ottawa Police.

They should have broken up the protest and cleared them out the very first day. Once the chuds knew the cops were letting them stay, it attracted morons from all around to join them and it became harder to evict them.

Taken with Trump’s muted reaction (which now makes a lot more sense) to the news, this revelation suggests that Canada has yet to face an actual test of whether it remains an independent country: doing something that the United States doesn’t sign off on.

Conservatives would rather roll over than fight for our nation. Voters with the separatist Bloc Quebecois will stand with Canada.
I saw this on my parliamentary trips to Europe and NATO. None of Poilievre's MPs bothered to show up. Bloc MPs came and worked with us to advance a strong Canada agenda.

Federal government loses Emergencies Act appeal | CBC News
The Liberal government unreasonably invoked the Emergencies Act to clear the convoy protests that gridlocked the capital city and border points nearly four years ago, the Federal Court of Appeal said.

i’ll say it again, jennings is a contemptible liar and it is a disgrace that CNN puts him on television every night to spread bullshit
The thing is, some people can make mistakes, get things wrong, be careless, etc. But that’s not what Jennings did here. Jennings knowingly, purposefully and intentionally lied to utterly distort what was said, which CNN pays him to do every day. CNN is the enabler of this.

A depressing spectacle that's honestly just deserts to the Novel committee for giving it to Machado as an attempt to split the baby with right wingers who begged for it to go to Trump
I mean I *knew* that the whole plan was for Machado to go to the White House and physically give Trump her Nobel Prize and yet I still feel like I’m disassociating that it happened.

ICE keeps saying the people protesting it are being paid without any evidence, but we have receipts showing that the people *defending* ICE are absolutely being paid.

And yet we only hear lies about the former on cable news.

We think it's time news orgs stop prioritizing clicks and start requiring higher standards from these platforms
We’ve adopted a new policy clarifying how we’ll be using digital platforms to share our journalism

Going forward, we will expect any platforms we use to demonstrate basic commitments to user safety, information integrity and democratic values
