Fascinating #Florida history of the American Revolution
I’m so honoured to learn that my segment on WGCU on the American Revolutionwas sent to Ken Burns an incredibly while most of the material I discussed he was familiar with some of it apparently was new to him!

😡 @ashtonpittman.bsky.social just shared one of the worst uses of the passive voice I’ve ever seen with me.

Make no mistake: Too many in journalism use passive voice on purpose to give passes and to soften certain news about power.

Why I basically outlaw it in our shop. (It also ruins writing.)

In the wake of news about Project B, a new women’s basketball league with a range of funders from around the globe, I want to highlight this recent paper exploring (and critiquing) the concept of “sportswashing”:

The article highlights the need to decouple discussions about political (mis)communication and abuses of sport from the narrow conceptual preoccupation of ‘sportswashing’ with authoritarian decepti...

Yes, your honor, we received and sold stolen goods, but if there was no market for such we wouldn't have done so. Our customers are to blame.

We live in a golden age of shamelessness and grift.
"Sure, our plagiarism machine ingests enormous amounts of copyrighted material without anyone's permission, but it's the users of the machine who are the 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭 criminals, your honor." 🙄🙄

Just unbelievable levels of chutzpah.

Really not loving the tankie heel turn of a lot of WNBA fans re: Project B.

If your whole thing is “the U.S. sucks so folks can do whatever” then you’re basically buying into the nihilism of shit never getting better or a better way being possible.

Awesome to have an alternative to the clok app
Vine is being rebooted under the name diVine, with funding from Twitter’s former CEO Jack Dorsey.

The app plans to feature more than 10,000 previously archived Vines and does not allow AI-generated content.

But sometimes I think people might say, “Be proud! It’s a badge of honor”! — because they don’t want to deal with your anger.”

I have often said Fox News Channel is a political operation disguised as a cable newschannel. ProPublica's reporting reveals just how far that goes, saying the "network repeatedly provided a misleading picture of what was happening in Portland." https://loom.ly/0MARod4
“Riots Raging”: The Misleading Story Fox News Told About Portland Before Trump Sent Troops
After reviewing coverage from the network and hours of social media videos that preceded Trump’s decision, ProPublica found that Fox’s portrayal of “Portland rioters” routinely instigating violence was misleading.

Good news for this book on #WNBA history has dark personal down side. Finishing chapter on 2022 season helped me to process and conclude:

1. I reject feeling SHAME for other people’s misdeeds or mistakes; and

2. I won’t stay SILENT about them anymore either.
