A little one in my family has recently had their autism diagnosis confirmed and is very clearly going to need a lot of support throughout their education, their mum is pushing for an EHCP. Putting them in a "fight like hell every few years to stop us from writing off your kid" us grotesque.
The Labour government is going to absolutely gut SEND provision, especially when it comes to neurodivergent kids. From The Times exposé last night

For ages in my workplace, the most active use of pamphlet boxes was for disguising cups of tea, cafetieres etc carried through the library from the office to the staff room, as hot drinks were banned for students and we were supposed to set a good example.
Can you think of examples where people use technologies differently from what the developers intended, whether unintentionally or as an act of resistance?

This looks quite a lot like an assertion by the Home Office that it knew it was breaking the law, didn't care, and doesn't regret it.

Volunteered for this in my workplace for a bit a while ago and it was fun and interesting but poorly resourced and supervised, hives were in a less than ideal location and we kept losing colonies. I'm sure employers are keen to front the cash & time off required to make this actually useful 🤔

Doing this with cassettes for your mixtapes, then sellotaping over the hole to reuse the tape when you got bored with it
Breaking the tab off the video tape so you didn't accidentally record over your copy of Blazing Saddles that you had taped off the telly, painstakingly editing out the commercials

Not sure what it says about the quality of my hangovers these days that my first reaction to this was "want that" despite having been vegetarian for ~25 years & finding McDonald's generally repulsive 😔

Managed to get through making Christmas lunch with the chronic back pain, but got overwhelmed by it before we'd finished eating. Has taken over most of my afternoon/evening, as is becoming the norm. 6 months since 1st physio appt, pain is worsening and no one can tell me what's wrong.
