The USA is an evil empire, led by a deranged child rapist. The world should be sanctioning it harder than it did Russia.
Watch this. Watch again.

As I said, I generally try to refrain from talking about US politics at all, because I’m Canadian and the crazy cuckoo mess that is going on down there generally has nothing to do with me.

But given what just happened in Venezuela, I feel like we need to talk about some history.

Watching what is going down in Alberta with Danielle Smith continuously trying to violate the treaties that exist in Alberta, and the indigenous groups continuously slapping her back with the word of law, is glorious.

And, on top of all of this, we need to tax the shit out of the rich.

The US has attacked a country, kidnapped its head of state, and is seizing its oil. Trump has invoked the Monroe Doctrine.

This is a moment for Canada to stand up: condemn this act of imperialism. Reject impunity and the politics of brute force.

Canada’s response has shown why we need the NDP: Poilievre applauds Trump. Carney's government cannot muster a single world of criticism.

Whatever you think about Maduro, Canada cannot be an accessory to this blatant violation of international law.

Completely disqualifying from PP. I am disgusted and embarrassed that he is an MP and we pay his salary and keep him in luxury. Heck, I’m embarrassed his is Canadian.

Of course, they're fucking Nazis.
While Trump lickspittle Pierre Poilievre fails to condemn an obvious violation of international law, it’s worth noting that 50% of Conservatives approve of the Trump administration.

This tells you everything you need to know about the state of the Conservative Party.

New statement from PM Carney.

Poilievre has haters, and I'm one of them. If he has one hater, it's me. If he has zero haters, I must be dead.

This is a dangerous and irresponsible response.

Cheering the illegal abduction of a foreign head of state and celebrating U.S. control over another country is wrong.

Canada cannot pick & choose when international law applies. If the rules only matter when it’s convenient, they don’t protect anyone

Perhaps now people will stop wishcasting about the US military refusing illegal orders. That's not a thing that happens. The 100% compliance rate with using civilian boats for target practice was a bit of a tell.

Every single western government is proving itself, at best, hypocrites. They sold you on sanctions and endless war these past four years for values they don't actually believe in at all.

US imperialism is an evil, existential threat to life itself. I try to avoid just piping in to tweet that something is bad unless I can offer something *actionable*, but as ways to help emerge I'm going to try to keep this thread updated with those ways. My heart is breaking for Venezuelans

The Canadian government celebrates the US committing the crime of aggression against Venezuela, in violation of international law and the UN Charter, even as it calls for respect for international law.

I’m not surprised: Carney took a similar approach when the US illegally attacked Iran last year.

The traitor in charge of Venezuela's opposition--that cheered on the random murder of her people--just got callously discarded by Trump. Carney should maybe take note of the way the US rewards such loyal obedience.

Imagine if Carney was part of a 'negotiated exit' by Pierre Poilievre?
Like even if that was what happened (it's not), would Canadians really be like 'oh that's good then'?
We should not accept America being the arbiter of other governments, even when Trump isn't president, jesus christ.
Sources in the Venezuela opposition tell Sky News that tonight’s operation to “capture” Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, was part of a “negotiated exit” between Maduro and the United States.
