A French ICC judge sanctioned by the US over the Netanyau arrest warrant says all his accounts with US companies have been closed, making it “like being sent back to the 1990s.”

“Without sovereignty – military, health, financial and digital – we can no longer guarantee the rule of law,” he says.

As @doctorvive.bsky.social has pointed out a quadrillion times, it such a moment of significant and extreme alarm that fossi lfuel industry talking points are being shamelessly and bluntly repeated by people like this

Very, very, very grim
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said today that the fight against climate change was not against the fuels that cause it — only the pollution they emit.
Von der Leyen says EU is not fighting fossil fuels, only emissions
The comment could undermine European countries’ push at COP30 to move away from coal, oil and gas.

The thing I find the most interesting about it is that in my experience, the subjective quality of the poetry seemed to have a pretty significant correlation to it's prompt hacking effectiveness.

The closer you get to something that feels like it has independent literary value, the better it works

Propelled by the climatic and hegemonic transitions, military-imperial forms of state capitalism are confiscating our collective right to a safe, green, tech-powered future.

I read this over the summer - quite the read! Thoroughly recommend for anyone working in climate especially on scenarios or overshoot. It’s a pessimistic read which unfortunately is hard to disagree with; not sure what to make of all of it but very thought-provoking.

This is after Merz made harsh remarks about Brazil, mocking the handling of COP30 in Belém.

This is why I advise in The Language of Climate Politics that saying we’re better off now than we were before the Paris Agreement only lowers urgency & helps fossil fuel interests: the IMPACTS of lower levels of heating are proving to be so much worse than we thought even just ten years ago.

Research on this is clear: the uncertainty created by this policy will lead to people integrate less into British society. It is trading-off the reasonable policy goal of integration for the useless symbolism of immigration numbers. Bad policy to appease the far right.

I dream of a day when corporations have to reapply for every tax break, contract, and grant every six months, with a requirement that it is the CEO who must complete the paperwork, and attest under penalty of law that they personally did so.
The shutdown was an excuse, not a reason, to go after SNAP.

SNAP recipients have to re-apply either every 6 months or year. Onerous process, with almost no fraud.

There are no shutdown-related requirement for SNAP renewal. But it would predictably result in low-income families going hungry.
Brooke Rollins says on Newsmax SNAP participants will have to re-apply for the program.

Details are still unclear.
