its wonderful how i lost the other physical fighter in the party due to plot reasons and now everything deals 60 damage to my max 180 hp characters and now i literally dont have enough money to buy any new equipment and nothing even drops that much money anyways

genuinely one of my biggest recommendations for emulating older games is getting your hands on a scan of the manual somewhere. having that at least accessible is an intended part of the design and experience and a lot of shit that's "obtuse" by modern standards is just expecting you to read it
I'm older than you so I can confirm that they came with a little book that had the tutorial in it and you read it on the way home
