They are one of the tiny little birds that stay with us year round. In the winter they are especially busy, constantly foraging and talking.
This red-breasted nuthatch has just plucked a small nut from a spruce cone and will either eat or stash it for later.

Utricularia tenella - the Pink Bladderwort

Growing in winter wet areas, this delicate bloom is the flower of a carnivorous bladderwort endemic to southern parts of Australia. Like other species in the genus, it has a bladder-like trap.

A Sea bean!!
A seed from the Monkey-ladder plant - commonly found in Central America, South America, the Caribbean and Africa.
Sea currents and winds occasionally push them on to Irish shores and I've been told that these seeds are sometimes still viable even after such a long journey.

A sleepy lizard in the dunes along the Yalata coast. Also known as pine-cone lizards, stumpy-tailed lizards, bobtails and double-enders, these large skinks are the largest members of the blue-tongue family. They are one of very few lizard species that are monogamous.
