I remember that constant refrain in my childhood being to pick my battles.
And they're right sorta and I have to but what they actually meant was that I shouldn't fight at all because caring was somehow wrong and the amount of battles they wanted me to pick was zero.
It's exhausting and frustrating.

And I got so angry when I got on meds the first time and got to feel this more consistently to notice that yeah the pride isn't there it's just relief. Somebody didn't plug that bit into my brain. It's not fair.

We don't feel good that a task is done; we feel the absence of dread now that it's no longer hanging over our head.
That's just the best we get - a temporary absence of stress or panic - and it just feels good by comparison.

I've been explaining to my mom what ADHD is like because we've got ppl in our lives affected by it and the looks of horror she gets when I get to the part about how the feeling of reward after completing a task is just not there and how that makes it so much harder to start the task -

‘Some’ is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. AI needs to fuck right off out if education. It does not and CANNOT do what you’re pushing for. You want to do something for education? Take a hard stand against the usage of genAI and get it banned so students learn the skills they’re supposed to.
