Hey, new friends! :) I thought I'd introduce myself:

I'm Anna. I make music for trailers, games and films like @moonshell-island.bsky.social. The first feature I've made music for recently premiered at SLIFF (whereinthemovie.com).

I also act sometimes and write (screenplays + games).

If you like feeling the freedom and possibility of open world games, but not the 80 hour run time — try these. They're fantastic open world indie games with playtimes of 2-14 hours.

I have come across this with musicians too. Please make sure people who like your work can contact you!
I love the Outsiders Arts Club and I love working with artists! what I love maybe slightly less is the number of artists' websites which do not offer any information on, say, whether they have gallery representation, where they live, how one may contact them, or indeed absolutely anything useful

Played Myst for the first time last week. A lot has been said about the aesthetics and game design but I think what will stick with me the most are the choices of angles that are forced upon you. I don’t think I would have had the same experience if this had been a bumpy 3D environment.

The people who opine about “preserving culture” are the people who understand, appreciate, and participate in culture the least. All it is to them is a way to say “nothing should change in a way that is uncomfortable to my own pinhole worldview,” which of course is the opposite of how culture works.
Always striking to me how reactionaries treat "culture" as immutable, something totally static. They think it's like an inheritance, something with set bounds passed down from parent to child and never changing - Instead of the ongoing collective experience of people in a place and time

On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

CW: annoying text sounds

Finished implementing the ground floor club interior, got object interactions animating as intended, & started adding crossfade to music effects when switching tracks.

Age verification? I remember when the first Leisure Suit Larry asked you a bunch of questions at the start and booted you out if you didn't know the answers, because only an adult would know them

“Four of my children just evaporated,” Badran said, holding back tears. “I looked for them a million times. Not a piece was left. Where did they go?”

There are no words to adequately describe the evil here.
Israel used weapons in Gaza that made thousands of Palestinians evaporate
US-made thermal weapons burning at 3,500C caused 2,842 people to "evaporate" in Gaza, Al Jazeera investigation finds.

The coolest thing about the internet was always that it was decentralized and made by people. You would find a cool niche website and it would become one of your favorite personal places to visit. Now we spent most of our time on like 5 sites and it's not even fun anymore.
a nice thing about when the internet was a bunch of little sites and servers was that it was a lot harder for governments to pressure "the chat provider everyone uses" to implement age verification.

you wanna pressure 300 separate IRC servers? good luck with that. but one company? easy

Sam has been sharing her progress with Moonshell Island publically in this devlog. It's been so much fun watching her build this beautiful game.
Since June 2025, I've been learning to code in #gamemaker as I rebuild #Moonshell_Island from scratch after losing another programmer. Follow my #gamedev journey one day at a time in this thread!

CW: possibly annoying SFX

Polished & added more ways to trigger SFX:
- Floaty acorn pickups!
- Area triggers for looping, pitch-varied, repeating, 1-off, & crossfading loop sounds!
- Walking on beach grass sounds silly!

I have a pet peeve with writing: When characters constantly bicker and argue with each other. In real life, people disagree all the time but not everyone is constantly outspoken and aggressive about it (except on the internet).
