the tigers filing at $19m for skubal is just insanity. it would have been easy to give him an offer that at least recognizes and rewards his contributions. instead they filed a lowball number and will trash his performance in an arb hearing. what are we doing here?

MLB teams should each have a few games a year without the DH. because I think it would be funny.
This place needs some Innocuous Discourse pronto. Quote this with a take that’s not political or aggressive

Would genuinely say baseball prospectus is not just the gold standard for baseball writing but sports writing in general. In addition to the wealth of resources in terms of stats/rosters/injury projections, it’s just been awesome to have well crafted writing that doesn’t lean on click bait
Hey Everyone,

I know I’ve been pretty aggressive about promoting our subscriptions and our value proposition of late. But I just talked with our (lovely) ownership, and the fact of the matter is we've seen our subscriber base shrink the last two years.

This. This is the fundamental issue. If the government can simply declare you outside the class of people who are entitled to due process, how do you prove otherwise?
If there is any class of persons whose rights are not guaranteed by the Constitution, then the government can do anything they want to any of us.

Oh, you're not part of the excluded class? Once they say you are, you have no right to make your case. No case to make.

I respectfully disagree with Holt. Musk's overt Nazi salute was not an act of "self-sabotage" because it has cost Musk NOTHING. It was a successful demonstration of impunity.

“I’m skeptical it was on purpose,” said Jared Holt, a senior research analyst at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, which tracks online hate. “It would be an act of self-sabotage that wouldn’t really make much sense at all.”

Musk’s straight-arm gesture embraced by right-wing extremists regardless of what he meant
NEW YORK (AP) — The Anti-Defamation League, an antisemitism and human rights watchdog, called it an “awkward gesture” and urged caution in jumping to conclusions.

SO glad this article talks about the nhl because as someone who still lives and breathes the nhl, I’ve seen the nhl held up as proof that the salary cap is good when really it should be proof it doesn’t fucking work and also makes nhl free agency boring as shit
Earlier this week Meg asked if I had thoughts about the Dodgers/salary cap business and I said "ugh I'd rather not it's so stupid" and 60 hours later I'm letting Mikhail Bakunin and the Tampa Bay Lightning into the CMS
Sick of the Dodgers Signing all the Free Agents? Well, Get Off Your Butt and Do Something About It.
I kept putting off writing about a salary cap because it’s a stupid idea.

Just gonna say it: no one should be starting brand new organizations right now. No funders should be giving millions to randos who say they're going to fight Trump.

Find organizations that are ALREADY DOING THE WORK and who are meaningfully accountable to a grassroots base.

Ask how you can help.

Many animal shelters are overwhelmed from people dropping off beloved pets they can't take with them as they flee. Please consider donating and fostering. Pasadena Humane is one such org. Contact your local animal orgs to see if they need help.
