Speaking as a longtime Paul Thomas Anderson aficionado, Sinners was a way more important film — and a much smarter film — than One Battle After Another, which was entertaining at times but also full of misogynoir and bad revisionist readings of liberation movements

An affirmation I need to hear today, so posting it in case anyone else needs it too:

It’s not an unreasonable expectation that someone stays true to their word, especially if they say they want to have a meaningful place in your life.

Google has started automatically opting you in to let it read your stuff to train AI. You need to turn this off in SEVERAL places in your settings (not just for Gmail), if you want to maintain privacy and confidentiality.

Does anybody else take the Pepto bismol out and leave it on the counter for a while before actually taking it, as though somehow the threat of the Pepto will scare your guts into behaving?

Do NOT license your voice to ElevenLabs.

Their highest-paid actor made $30k last year. Sounds a lot, but that’s from 1.2 bn paid uses - $0.000025 per job. ElevenLabs charge 20 cents per 1,000 words. So they’re making at least 8,000 times what their artists are.

The rollercoaster experience of finding out that a fun movie you saw just had a 4K restoration…

…but it was done sloppily with AI upscaling.

Literally everything these fools touch turns to caca

So I manage several Gmail accounts (hello compartmentalization) so while in turning off the Gemini in email, I’m also just double checking that the personalization and other general account tracking settings are off in every account as well.

And I have noticed something!

I don’t know how I’m not more tired today considering how little I slept, but it makes me nervous that I won’t be able to sleep again tonight

(What I would give to live a jump cut to me being passed out in bed for like 10 hours)

Hot damn. Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson would be proud of this country boy sticking it to the man.
Wow! Jesse Welles performed his song “Join ICE” on the Colbert Show last night. 🏆

I’m being vague on purpose but one of the best things about muting most relevant Alien: Earth tags early on is by the time I watched the show myself, the whole ice age deal was a total surprise to me and I got to experience it like a baseball bat connecting to my temple at 80 mph

I hate when Instagram puts me on the Mean Girl* algorithm. Why do you think I would enjoy spending time with such hateful miserable people

It’s also always mixed with “middle class, usually white parents” algorithm
