As we continue celebrating George Martin's centenary, here's his isolated score for Martha My Dear. If memory serves, this is also @mjmckean.bsky.social favorite song on the White Album. youtu.be/lmBpNI6tGNI

I cannot wait!
On this, the 100th birthday of Sir George Martin, we are most-pleased to announce this project:

This was begun over 10 years ago, with George at his house and archives... First-hand, never-before-seen work from his own hand.

Happy 100th Big George! I’ll be celebrating here for the next week but let’s start with one his greatest scores, Strawberry Fields Forever, which we re-recorded by following the Beatles’ original rhythm track so it’s as faithful as possible. youtu.be/UrO-s7gh0-c?...

The best. What a voice.
The original. This song still just picks me up and seeeps me along until it’s over, every single time. Kirsty MacColl, everybody!

Got an email last night that reminded me how hard people cling to 50+ years of myth and unreliable memory even in the face of solid contradictory evidence. This is about my specialized area of interest but can also apply to so much of what we see in the world any given day

Granted, I prefer to choose my guests rather than take pitches (I'm not a talk show), but I'll usually sent an email politely declining. Unless you spam me five times within two hours, and then I'm blocking you. Anyway, happy Friday.

A perfect album. Just before I interviewed Chris Thomas (who produced it) for the first time, he was telling me random stories, including recalling that it was him and Cale playing the violas on Hanky Panky Nohow. (You can hear a mix of just violas & Cale’s vocal on the Rhino release from 2006)
It's sad that the list of best albums of 1973 - Dark Side of the Moon, Quadrophenia, Yellow Brick etc never include Paris 1919 by John Cale.
It's a wonderful album. The perfect accompaniment to a lovely winter day.

Turn it up to 11 today. 💔
Rob Reiner: I'm going to make a coming of age drama, a fantasy adventure story, a romantic comedy, a psychological horror and then a courtroom drama.

Us: Across your entire career?

Reiner: In a 6 year period.

Us: That sounds-

Reiner: -Each one will be arguably the best movie in that genre.

"AI" as the term is currently used is, by the very nature of its structure, incapable of coming up with new ideas. LLMs literally produce the most likely next word in a string. They produce the obvious, the expected, the mediocre. They *cannot*, and will not ever, create something new.

“In their eyes there’s something lacking
What they need’s a damn good whacking”

Beatle quotes for all occasions
Just thinking about how fucked up mega-rich people must be, because they can't even enjoy their money properly, because the most enjoyable thing to do with money is to use it to fix people's problems.

Reshare because when I got everything synched up & pressed play it was 🤯 When working on the ATMP book and talking to arranger John Barham, I began to realize how rich (and barely heard) the orchestral parts were. This is a case in point.
Thinking of George today, I made a mix of Beware of Darkness highlighting with just strings and vocals (and a bit of Hammond organ) youtu.be/BI_k6x2lY64

Because I’m a rebel I’m taking my time and watching Anthology 2025 out of order. Last night I watched 9 and my main criticism is the same for the other episodes I’ve seen: I want MORE
