Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

Well, an acquaintance who relies on the ACA marketplace for insurance just received a notice explaining that their fee for coverage will be rising. Right now they pay $180 a month. The new price?

$2733.15 a month.

Dodgers became 1st team since at least 1906 to get 5+ no-hit innings from a starting pitcher and have bullpen allow 9+ runs in the game.

I am literally begging anyone who does any kind of journalism to spend an hour in an eviction courtroom every week for a month. Please.

The eviction crisis in this country is downplayed at best and ignored at worst. It's racialized state violence that hearkens back to the worst of Jim Crow,

During the 1970s, an arson wave ravaged poor communities across the US. Some lost 80% of their housing. Residents were blamed.

In reality, landlords—paid by insurers and enabled by the state—drove this arson-for-profit epidemic.

Public broadcasting is about more than content. It's about an ethos. That there need to be spaces in society that are not soaked in the logic of consumerism and profit. Where people are treated as citizens, valued for humanity and their ideas rather than disposable income. It's simple, but powerful.

Talk about The Wire, Sopranos, Game of Thrones all you want, but the greatest US television program ever made is Sesame Street. It's not even close. 50+ years of treating kids across class, ethnicity, religion not as mini-consumers...but as citizens with a stake in this world.

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

It’s completely insane that US troops are illegally deployed to suppress domestic opposition and it’s not uniformly condemned by the press and political elite.

Idk man but when the administration that tried to reject humanitarian aid for Los Angeles when it was burning tries to justify their illegal military occupation by saying they aren’t going to let LA burn it kinda sounds like bullshit

It’s very difficult for me to put myself in the shoes of the journalists covering this situation on the ground without mentioning routinely to a national audience the relative calm surrounding most of LA.

It simply should never be the case that a city is described as rioting when it is not.

I feel like for a lot of people on this site, the weird news coverage of LA is like, “lol ok of course they’re not telling the truth”

But can I just say: as a longtime journalist, who had a lot of faith in the industry I joined, I’m quite disturbed by some of the coverage of LA!

BREAKING: Federal agents in plain clothes and unmarked cars tried to snatch 1st graders from LA elementary schools—told staff they had “parental consent.”

They lied. When pressed, they HID THEIR IDS. DHS admits they sent them. This wasn’t a welfare check. It was a test run for a police state.
