I would, frankly, argue that Australia bears a greater responsibility than other countries because the anti-migration movement started here. Trump explicitly took pointers on migration policy from Scott Morrison and has ultimately simply expanded what we taught him

Good video essay. It's not about keeping individual "bad apples" accountable, or removing select individuals, or grand secret conspiracy, it's about systemic inequality (of gender, socioeconomic class) and people tolerating it, baked into the fabric of normalised way of perceiving the world.

You can also get tested for the antibodies to see if you've been vaccinated!

MMR fades over time in some folks so even if you're over 30 you should do an antibody test. I'm doing one now before going back to the US later this year.
if you don’t know if you’ve had your MMR you can get it as an adult!
Cannot believe we're in a place where there's an actual measles outbreak in London ffs

incredible take given that the effect of the 4,400 rulings that ICE has jailed people illegally is precisely fuck all.
Our court system is largely working, with the exception of the most important court
Courts have ruled 4,400 times that ICE jailed people illegally. It hasn’t stopped.

I may say more later but part of what some of us need to understand is that the right has built an entirely distinct civic society, with its own hierarchy and (mostly networked) cultural institutions. That includes celebrity.

"The UN has warned that Cuba is on the precipice of humanitarian 'collapse' if the U.S. doesn't lift its oil blockade — in a country that has ... long struggled with an energy crisis brought on by decades of a devastating U.S. embargo."
AOC blasted Trump’s Cuba fuel blockade as part of a “new era of depravity” opened by the Gaza genocide, warning that the impunity shown there has put civilians everywhere in greater danger.

Sea turtles were swimming. Suddenly, a pod of whales swam by behind them. It was a strange sight to see whales swimming in a pod in these shallow waters, where coral reefs abound.

the nyt says that no version of events in minneapolis can be "verified independently." but that's not true! there are multiple videos proving that the ICE version of events is a total lie. maybe the nyt can, y'know, watch one of them? www.nytimes.com/live/2026/01...

why are your reporters reporting on an event that they can't provide basic facts for? perhaps you shouldn't have a liveblog if you can't find a local reporter and can't examine the many high resolution videos available multiple angles alongside a variety of eyewitness accounts.
