There unfortunately isn't a way to organize a society that is immune to somebody seizing control by violence.

There is no simple answer to precisely when a democracy must defend itself from antidemocratic fascism, but every democracy will someday defend its ideals with blood else it will perish.
So "liberal democracy" can't win the political argument against fascism and has to resort to violence, is that what you're saying?

If that's the case, it strikes me that, perhaps, liberal democracy isn't such a good way to organise society?

there are about 120,000 polling places and ¾ of states have some form of mail-in voting. there are about 22,000 immigration enforcement agents total.

ICE can indeed terrorize a medium-sized city and harass others, but this fear-mongering about elections is innumerate nonsense.
This giant ICE Army they are building this year is also likely to be at polling places during the midterms in heavily Democratic precincts with the excuse being that they are looking for “illegals trying to vote.”

the american right wing controls three branches of federal government and controls a significant portion of national news media. nobody is learning anything here, this is just a proto-fascist social club for dummies.

Montgomery County Immigrant Rights Collective has their heart in the right place, but its apparently run by the dumbest motherfuckers in the DMV
the dominant "rapid response" group in DC is deliberately discouraging the use of whistles and offering no alternative system to alert people who are in immediate danger. wrecker behavior at best, at worst infiltration.

You have to block them immediately. The full nuclear. They are only here to make folks angry, and that can’t happen if we lock them out.

I think the disconnect between Atlantic elites is that Americans think Donald Trump is a kid getting to drive a monster truck for Make A Wish and Europeans and Canadians think Donald Trump is the president of the United States.

Third Way is not 'the Democrats', its our nation's premier think tank for dumb centrist policy. Sarah Pierce is a DHS alum and both she and Erickson have been pushing their personal center-right immigration agenda for years.
ICE may be shooting people in the face, sending people to concentration camps, and illegally occupying our cities but, apparently, the Democrats think saying, "abolish ICE" is "emotional" and politically "lethal."

remember that when people finally come around to your project, its time to grit your teeth and, with careful grace, welcome them. even if they're joe rogan and still dumb as shit.

I wrote book reviews for a while for the WSJ well over a decade ago, and Bari Weis was my editor. One of her special tricks was to try to insert a sharp rightward slant into my essays *after* it had been copy edited, as a way of slipping her viewpoint in at the last minute.

I think, every so often, about how the student protesters in South Korea figured out there was a finite supply of tear gas, and then staged retreating marches that caused police to burn off most of it, before the big "bring your auntie and kids" marches that ultimately toppled the dictatorship.

Also: " Border Patrol officials also plan to send all nonlethal weapons housed in Chicago to Minnesota, according to the documents."

They don't have capacity to terrorize more than 2-3 cities at a time.

Which means they rotate teams to new cities without relief.

Which means consistent resistance by fresh activists in each new city will break them over time.

Which means if you're city's not occupied, rest up and get ready.

No, it was a successful coup. None of the people who led it were punished, and are in fact back in power, rewarded for their efforts to break the system by running it. Donald Trump is currently the dictator he attempted to become 5 years ago, and it’s because nobody treated trying as a crime.
We must speak plainly: January 6th was an attempted coup. It was an effort to nullify millions of lawful votes and subvert the will of the American people.

low-wage delivery jobs are bad, the robot is cute, and if it's in your way you can just step over/around it.

i'm sorry but the path to fully automated luxury gay space communism includes – surprise! – automation. fix your hearts or die.
Just as you thought food delivery companies couldn't inflict any more misery on society:

Instead of using lowly-paid gig economy contractors to deliver groceries, they're replacing humans with robots, who, in turn, force humans off the pavement into road traffic.

First you will come to the Sirens who enchant all who come near them. If any one unwarily draws in too close and hears the singing of the Sirens, his wife and children will never welcome him home again, for they sit in a green field and warble him to death with the sweetness of their song.
