Hi folks, this is me. I come from a disadvantaged background including youth homelessness, teen parenthood, high school dropout, poverty & more. Education was my passport to life. Demography helped me realise I was never the problem; society is unequal & needs fixing. www.abc.net.au/listen/progr...
Deviating demographics with Liz Allen - ABC listen
Dr Liz Allen is a demographer fascinated by Australia's demographic trends. But her own story is a remarkable case study in deviating from the norm
www.abc.net.au
Stories like this are well intended, but by not standardising the data - to account for population variation - it has the potential to change the ‘facts’ and messaging on crime statistics. www.canberratimes.com.au/story/907320...
Decade of crime data shows homes are safer than ever before, yet Canberrans are not
Our analysis shows how ACT crime has changed in the past decade.

Bizarre situation in Canberra concerning a 20% fee increase at one of its most expensive & exclusive private schools. While public schools are financially strapped, Radford parents are crying foul - they’ve chosen the elite school because it’s ‘humble’. www.canberratimes.com.au/story/910626...

Australia’s retirement system assumes seniors are homeowners. Suggesting forever renters need to suck it up and accept their fate is heartbreaking. Political elite have given up on a big chunk of Aussies.

Forever renters want solutions. Experts say look at Vienna
Australia has a growing cohort of forever renters and experts say the government should be looking to examples in other countries where more social and affordable housing options are being developed.

Infrastructure, not immigration, to blame for Australia’s housing crisis. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-11...
These charts show the effect of migration on Australia's housing story
The role of migration is one of the most contentious elements to the housing debate. So what does the evidence show?

What an absolute disgrace. Shame on ANU.
“incredibly stupid”, “absolutely disgraceful”…

Despite ANU’s own socially responsible investment policy, the university invested in and profited from Elbit systems shares - “a key enabler of the Israel Defense Forces in its commission of war crimes”. www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

Exclusive: University says Elbit Systems, whose drones have been used extensively in Gaza, not on any controversial weapons list when shares bought and sold this year

Let us end this carnival of cruelty, rehabilitate and rehome the horses, and stop the corrosive influence of gambling donations on our politics by banning them outright.

Things keep going from bad to worse for horses in the racing industry yet the media, politicians and their mates in toxic gambling companies continue to pretend everything is okay. This is a stain on our nation.

Neatly defined arbitrary generations fail to capture these social delineations. Housing prices have seen many 40-somethings miss out on homeownership, unless they’re lucky (rich or connected). We’re talking families in lifelong insecurity. This isn’t being addressed.
Australia’s housing crisis - yes, it’s a crisis - has been brewing since the 1950s. It’s not new. Anyone telling you we’re not going to have generations of families in precarious housing is privileged AF. Devastating consequences. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-11...
House prices have been climbing for a generation. Will a fix take longer?
It's an inconvenient truth that a housing crisis that took a generation to create cannot be fixed easily. The damage will likely take another generation to undo, unless the solution comes at the expen...
