'Extremely rare' First Nation-owned mine in Manitoba may be more viable than Ontario's Ring of Fire: expert | CBC News
A northern Manitoba mining project fully owned by a local First Nation could turn Manitoba into the "centre for clean magnesium in North America," but proponents say it needs help to reach production.

If you’re a professor away from academia, in a social setting in which you have no status, you can act like a person with a completely different job. But in an academic setting, you need to be considerably more responsible, respectful and circumspect. Academia is full of creepy behaviour.
Counterpoint: You can bring up pregnancies, engagement rings, and even new haircuts—like a normal human being. You also don't have to leave the elevator if a woman is entering. It just takes a minimum level of human decency to handle these situations.
Tip on being human for faculty men:

Things never to mention to any student, unless directly asked: their clothing, their bodies, their romantic lives. Ever. (Even new hair and outfits, obvious pregnancies, engagement rings, etc.) They will bring it up if they want your opinion. It's not that hard.

Perhaps somebody forgot to tell the PM that China doesn’t look like an expanding market for LNG if they’re burning less carbon year over year.
so cool that mark carney is gutting climate policy to make a very expensive bet that asia will buy a ton of additional oil and gas from canada over the next few decades
"Far from a peak, China's gasoline demand is estimated to have fallen 9% in October on the year to 12.5 million tons, with average daily use roughly flat with September..."

China's oil demand is entering structural decline.

But wait! Alberta wants to sell you bitumen! Canada needs you to make us an energy superpower! Don’t stop using carbon!
China’s CO2 emissions have now been flat or falling for 18 months, starting in March 2024.

This trend continued in the third quarter of 2025, when emissions were unchanged year-on-year.

If this trend starts to move into sustained carbon emissions reduction it would be hugely significant.

It’s #WorldVentil8Day! 🌬️

Clean indoor air is a fundamental pillar of school safety.

Effective ventilation drastically reduces the spread of airborne illnesses (flu, RSV, COVID) and is crucial for maintaining healthy Ontario classrooms.

And lying about it in expensive ads. Obvi.

I think that we may come to see Chinese EVs as the norm, with German and other EU cars in niche markets. (Assuming there’s some movement on charging infrastructure.) But outside the USA, will the Big 3 be able to maintain market share without NAFTA?

Researchers all too often create fictional results. This one sold his as snake oil.

But here’s the kicker: UBC lied for him!!

How are giant, powerful, respected universities called to account?
I've tried for years to access an investigation report about misconduct during a clinical trial for spinal cord patients.

Michelle Ghoussoub and I can now tell the full story about how data was fabricated to make near-miraculous claims about a treatment for bed sores.

The commodification of everything applies to AI, too. In the long run, everything is porn.
I see that OpenAI has pivoted from ‘Our mission is to supersede human intelligence for the greater good. We‘re going to cure cancer lads!‘ to ‘The Internet is for porn, give us a trillion dollars!‘. To be fair to them, the first claim was always a lie so at least they‘re being honest now.
