Climate change is the world's most pressing issue because it makes everything else worse. It enables dictators, it drives inflation, it makes survival harder for the poorest people in the world.

And the new data are clear: the rate of climate change is accelerating.
Now that the Sept and Oct data are (belatedly) in, it looks like 2025 will be the second warmest year in the record (~80% probability). The last three years are in a class of their own.

With current pledges, the world's on track for 2.6°C of warming in 2100 compared to preindustrial levels.

10 years ago, before the Paris agreement, it was 3.6°C

20+ years ago, we thought it would be 4-5°C

So 2.6°C is better, but the problem is that climate impacts are way worse than we predicted.

When Big Oil companies claim to be partners in climate solutions, remember: they are lying.

As the climate crisis intensifies, Chevron is once again "increasing investments in oil and gas exploration," Reuters reports.

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

It's astounding how much CO₂ we put into the atmosphere each year by burning fossil fuels.

For comparison, we all agree that plastic pollution is bad, but the mass of ALL THE PLASTIC humanity has ever produced is only 25% of the CO₂ we emitted into the atmosphere in 2025.
1) Fossil fuel
Still no peak. Emissions are projected to increase by 1.1% in 2025, reaching 38.1 GtCO2. An all time high.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

Zohran Mamdani showed the Democratic party exactly how to win, but I fear they will totally deny the lesson. Meanwhile, ballroom boy has already pivoted to affordability. Please don’t let the old guard lose yet another election due to corruption and incompetence.

Thanks,

Basic care is labeled “socialism” as a way to SCARE & REPEL people. WRONG. It’s just “a government by & for the people”.
