I enjoyed crocheting that last scarf so much I decided to start another one yesterday. Really liking this color (Zen, Lion Brand Mandala Ombre). 🧶

Made my calls to Cruz, Cornyn, and Self. All had space in their voicemail for my message.
You can find your US reps and senators here: reps.fyi

If you call now, you'll get an answering machine and you can leave a message. A great thing to do if you're nervous about talking to someone. Just give your name, your zip code, and demand they impeach Trump for illegally invading Venezuela.

"Academics literally cannot make genAI go away" we also can't make underage drinking go away and we're not advocating for installing bar carts in every classroom.

My favorite of the "make a Bond film academic" posts.
BOND: "Do you expect me to talk?
GOLDFINGER: "Actually I have more of a comment than a question..."

Musicals!
In 6th grade choir class, Mrs. Erwin gave up (I don't blame her) and played VHS tapes of musicals for half a semester. Oklahoma, South Pacific, My Fair Lady, Holiday Inn, and White Christmas! I only knew Disney movies, The Sound of Music, and The Music Man before that.
Hating things is for chumps. Tell me about what you LOVE. And why. And what it means to you. I love hearing about people's passions. I don't give a good gotdamn about what you hate. 🖤

Genetics!
In 7th grade, Ms. Godfrey taught me how to do a Punnett square and I fell in love with it. Majored in it in undergrad. Got my PhD in it. Have taught it (at varying levels) to undergrads every year since 2007. Have won teaching awards because of my "passion."

After several months of not crocheting at all, I decided to pick up my hook and make another Tunisian stitch scarf. Knocked out the first foot in just a couple of hours. 🧶

This thread brought me joy.
In an effort at something good on the internet today: A thread on Mr KJC, gingerbread architect of the early 21st century.

Mr KJC got his beginnings like so many gingerbread architects: with a kit house for the kids. Kind of fun but the premade pieces are dry and nasty, only technically edible.

Finally set up the Christmas tree! Celebrated by trying some Wensleydale cheese with chocolate and orange. The candied orange bits give it a somewhat grainy texture but the flavor is yummy.

Texas Democrats just did something historic under the leadership of new state party chair @kendallscudder.bsky.social. We have filed a candidate in EVERY 2026 race.

U.S. House: 38 of 38
State Senate: 15 of 15
State House: 150 of 150
State Board of Education: 8 of 8

There's no single clearing house for grad school applications in the US. I had a student apply to 25 different schools. So I uploaded a letter and completed various scale ratings at 25 separate portals today (accessed via links sent to me in 25 different emails).
