Open AI loses copyright case in Germany.

Judge Elke Schwager summarized the case saying that if you want to build something and need components, "then you purchase them and do not use the property of others."

If people could see the tremendous level of pollution that is going on, they absolutely wouldn't tolerate it. Put that shit everywhere.
What if we could make CO₂ emissions visible? This cameras that Niki Gruber, the fearless leader of @upgroup.bsky.social, is holding does that. We should post videos everywhere.

"Smoko" by The Chats is one of the most Australian songs ever written. This is both an endorsement and an indictment. Absolute banger.

It is extremely funny to me that Brilliant Pebbles was like 40 years ago and the problem space has only gotten more difficult and yet here we are, apparently doing Brilliant Pebbles 2: Orbital Drift
And we will always be at a disadvantage—from a security and a cost standpoint—because our adversaries get to decide when, where, and how to attack (so we have to be prepared for everything everywhere all at once) and they can easily deploy less expensive countermeasures to offset our defenses.
SBIs will require defensive capabilities to help protect them from adversary ASATS -- and that is a cost factor/tech challenge that is not often included in ongoing discussions about investment requirements. breakingdefense.com/2025/11/gold...

The federal government only wanted to help South Australia with the algal bloom if it did not require new funding despite being briefed that an estimated 250k marine animals had been killed, new documents obtained through FOI reveal.

New from me in @thepointau.bsky.social.
‘Not an eligible disaster’: FOI reveals Commonwealth resisted new aid for SA after algal bloom killed 250,000 marine animals
The documents, obtained under Freedom of Information, show Australia’s lack of preparedness for unexpected and extreme events driven by climate change and the limits of existing support programs.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

More ESO observatories got laser guide stars! If you're not familiar with adaptive optics and the reasons why these very specific lasers have been installed have a look at the ESO pages about it. This is great news and extremely cool.

1/ Milestone achieved by the VLTI upgrade GRAVITY+: a laser has been installed at each of the previously unequipped VLT Unit Telescopes.

This will dramatically enhance the VLTI observing power.

All these dems sound exactly like this to me. I yearn for someone with a shred of human decency remaining, someone who believes in consequences.
“We are disheartened to learn that Lord Killdude has broke his promise and has been shoving people in the volcano. If the murdergooner party is as moral as it once was, then they will publicly disavow Lord Killdude’s actions and work with us towards a bipartisan solution to the volcano problem”

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Rumors absolutely goes off. Listening through on a nice pair of headphones is such a great experience.

I used to grab it out of my mom's record collection when I was a kid, and as an adult it still has things to show me.
I got into making music well into middle age because of podcast / video production, and then writing songs for TF. I loved Rumours as a kid and as a young adult because it whips. And now that I can much more clearly recognize what's going on musically / technically, I can say: holy shit it whips
every generation loves Rumours. it’s fucking Rumours
