Gary Lineker: "This is the mistake the BBC makes. The BBC tries to appease the people that hate the BBC, rather than worrying about the people that love the BBC."

Happy 100th anniversary to the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra; here celebrating with Mahler's utterly mad, bonkers and magnificent 8th Symphony.

Never cared for him as a minister, but this is spot-on.
SUPERB and angrily unvarnished response, by former BBC chairman, Lord Patten.
"I don't think that we should allow ourselves to be bullied into thinking that the BBC is only any good, if it reflects the prejudice of the last person who shouted at it." ~AA

Claude Rains and Richard Burton - two of the finest voices in cinema - share a birthday. They also both did great work under bandages...

#NowPlaying PFM, "Chocolate Kings". The first PFM album in which the lyrics were first written directly in English instead of being translated from Italian. Strong material, excellent playing ... but I really can't get on with Bernardo Lanzetti's vocals, like an Americanised Gabriel.

Richard Burton (1925-1984) was born 100 years ago today.
For his centenary, I recently visited his final resting place in Céligny, Switzerland - the idyllic Genevan village he called home for nearly 30 years.

#NowPlaying Le Orme, "Felona e Sorona 2016". Both the Italian and English versions (with lyrics by Peter Hamill) recorded by 2016 line-up. Both Tagliapietra and Pagliuca are long gone and although Michele Bon fills in nicely on vocals and Michi dei Rossi drums up a storm, it all feels unnecessary.

James Watson.
Scientist of some genius.
Also a bit of an asshole.
Many of the people I most admire were geniuses and also assholes.
The two can coexist. In some ways it’s good to be reminded that they do.

One week to go…and what a ride it’s been so far…#venicenoir
Almost a year in the making Venice Noir goes live a week today. Here’s hoping our debut is just the first of many. Couldn’t have done it without @pgjonesvenice.bsky.social @gregorydowling.bsky.social and the team at Studium and Merchant of Venice. Plus all the local businesses behind us. Thanks!
