We needed stronger regulations on e-bike batteries, like, yesterday.

Not only are the cheap dangerous batteries causing fires, but their existence is causing landlords & property managers to ban *all* e-bike & scooter batteries - even the safer ones - from buildings & parkades (like where I work).

Residents of Alberta's largest cities, Edmonton and Calgary, couldn't care less what goes on in Westlock or Drayton Valley or Lac La Biche. But residents of those towns had demonstrated, through political power, their desire to ban bike lanes and rainbow crosswalks in the major cities.
I feel pretty misunderstood by people living in rural areas, and yet mysteriously, this isn’t considered a problem.

I’m sick of putting up with this idiotic display of obeisance to chucklefucks simply because they live in rural areas.
Republicans control all 3 branches of government. Even when they don't, both parties pump out constant rhetoric about "real Americans" living in rural areas.

The entire premise of this article is a conservative-fluffing myth. Cities have more political power because that's where most people live!

Wîhkwêntôwin Neighbourhood Renewal final designs are out now:

There is a short engagement period, with two in person events and an online survey.

We think that an important neighbourhood like this deserves a more ambitious design.

#yegbike updates:

Most SUP in Mill Creek N and area have been cleared, except for one stretch adjacent to the Muttart LRT station for some reason.

Mill Creek Bridge is passable, albeit a bit on the icy side.

Neighbourhood roads still a mess in Bonnie Doon; take the sidewalk when possible.

This morning I received an email from the SE Active Pathways team, re: 91 street. I had filed a couple of 311 reports for deficient/non-existent snow clearing earlier in the month. #YEGbike

“Thank you for your patience as we address the recent snow clearing quality on the active pathways.

My commute to work wasn't terrible, though I do suggest avoiding the 87 ave hill in Bonnie Doon. Otherwise most areas are packed down enough that snirt isn't too much of an issue. Mill Creek SUP are looking good. #YEGbike

A flash freeze warning for Edmonton? Not sure I’ve seen that before, but I imagine this will be like the scene from The Day After Tomorrow where they have to outrun the cold.

Will the City of Edmonton work this hard to keep cyclists safe when the province inevitably comes for bike lanes to appease people the never visit Edmonton?

This is REALLY important in Ontario, where a really bad Premier has been attacking cities in many ways, including blocking smart bike infrastructure: “Rather than contravening the Ontario govt by removing vehicle lanes, the City of Toronto is instead planning to narrow them to accommodate bikes.”
'It's a win-win': How Toronto is planning 20km of new bike lanes without defying Ford
The City of Toronto is also planning $30-million worth of infrastructure upgrades, including bike lanes, cycle tracks, and trails.

Well that commute sucked. #YEGbike

With 76 ave/Mill Creek closed I took the residential streets and had my third tumble in a week. Apparently I'm looking to break records.

91 street from Argyll to 51 avenue is not cleared, and 51 ave itself west to 99 has windrows from road plowing.
I have an appointment on the south side today. I'll be using Mill Creek N/S, 91 street, and then westbound on 51 ave.

Is the 76 ave detour well marked? Any details on MUP conditions? Thanks, #yegbike!
