Grouchy.
These people have grown up with popular culture telling them that having to carry identification (“papers please”) is fascist and un-American, and they decided that is who they wanted to be. MAGA is, at its core, a movement with a central goal of inflicting pain on other people.
Wow, wow, wow. This has always been legally possible but the law has virtually never been enforced — and now this is the SECOND case I've heard of in the last month (first involving a person with a green card) of a noncitizen being charged for failure to carry their papers.
NEWS: ICE gave a Rogers Park man a $130 ticket for not having his papers on him. They rounded him up last week and eventually let him go, but not without a fine that some critics say is un-American. Trump admin enforcing little-used law

I’m a US citizen and a veteran. ICE arrested me for no reason.
Jailed for three days without an explanation or ability to notify anyone, George Retes argues the only path to healing starts with the government taking accountability for its actions.

The right, again. A movement that has argued the unemployed/homeless "have failed at life" and should be sent to "mega prisons" (Watters). Or just converted into "biodiesel" (Moldbug). A reminder that the core of Nazism was to expel some from the sphere of humanity, as "life unworthy of life".
Republican candidate for Governor of California Kyle Langford stands in front of a Nazi concentration camp and proposes sending unemployed and homeless individuals to be incinerated there.

Important perspective.
As promised, in light of the WaPo report of Everglades camp detainees being swarmed by mosquitoes in the shower and unable to sleep at night due to being bitten, I want to briefly address concentration camp history and mosquitoes. I won't be comprehensive but will give a few examples. [1/17]

The main problem with Superman movie reboots is that Gene Hackman set an insurmountable bar for the Lex Luthor character.

"Moderates" or "centrists" don't have fixed positions. So, you can't actually "meet them where they are" cause political discourse is constantly moving them. And if you keep trying - as Dems do - they will keep moving in the only direction they get pulled, to the right and eventually off the cliff.

Wonderful thread.
USAID forbidding employees from bringing throwing stars when they came to retrieve their belongings after being fired reminded me, wistfully, of the time my dad got in an argument with a @lufthansa.bsky.social attendant about whether I could bring a flail and longsword onto a flight.
Story time?
