Investment in our region's commuter rail is a huge boon. It's not only good for commuters — it's an investment in communities across the state and the region.

Great op-ed from @pcac.org Lisa Daglian in @crainsnewyork.bsky.social this week:
Op-ed: How the MTA’s new commuter train cars move all of New York forward
As part of its 2025–2029 Capital Plan, the MTA announced a $2.3 billion order for 316 new state-of-the-art M-9A railcars, which will modernize the fleets of the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North.

Modern signals mean frequent, reliable service for subway riders — but it'll take time, effort, and good communication to make it happen.

Great quotes from @pcac.org @dannyintransit.bsky.social in this @crainsnewyork.bsky.social piece on subway signals:

Celebrating a big CityTicket milestone @pcac.org today, nearly 25 years after we first advocated for it. Glad the @mta.info is making it permanent and the default option for rail riders. More of this, please!

Half-fares will be accepted at all times. Currently, half-fare tix r not valid on AM Peak trains (an exception in the law permits agencies to charge full-fare during peak hours). No mention of express buses, tho.

@pcac.org heavily pushed this. It's a small revenue impact. Most condrs let it slide.

This is potentially good news for riders. Hope they take some of @pcac.org's suggestions, plus some other good ones I've been reading in our OMNY survey.
#Breaking: According to @mta.info fare increase may be tied to full implementation of OMNY. Not confusing people with too many things all at once and possibly figuring out more discounts for the new payment system. That means could come next year and not this year.
