It's wild to me that we had ~enough~ social housing in Canada and then we just stopped that.

Shareholders are collectivism.
Companies are collectivism.
Families are collectivism.
Churches are collectivism.
Countries are collectivism.
America First is collectivism.
"We the People" is collectivism.

Rugged individualism is a joke.

I heard that, somewhere sometime, a cyclist rolled a clear four-way stop.

I was told bike lanes cause this. Meanwhile, bike lanes far outstrip on-street parking (socialized storage of private property) in terms of utility.
The FDNY's response to a five alarm fire in the Bronx was delayed by drivers who parked their cars in front of three fire hydrants closest to the blaze. Two firefighters and one civilian were injured.

Individual choices always take place in the context of systems. Blaming an individual for doing the 'easy' thing only goes so far. Always awesome to see people choose the difficult thing to pave the way (in this case, literally) for others.
The individual choice to swap a car for a bike is the easy part. The hard part is finding a city that prioritizes that freedom of choice through infrastructure.

NVIDIA announced new self-driving car tech yesterday.

My prediction:
- Tesla will be the Apple (fully integrated)
- NVIDIA will be the Android (licensed to automakers)

I failed dads everywhere.

My wife and I were shopping for a decorative light-up tree for outside the house. We finally saw them across some aisles and I said, "ah, we're finally barking up the right place." 🤦‍♂️

I want to hope it was a meta-joke, but I don't think I was quick enough.

I have told many folks I know who are looking at PHEVs: If you keep your car longer than 5 years, you will hate driving with gas in 2030 and detest it in 2035. If you can afford a full EV, go full EV.

But the misinformation has warped many folks who have good intentions.
Lots of studies showing a similar result: people who buy "plug-in hybrids" do not, as a rule, plug them in. They are mostly used & operated as gas cars.

(My take is, EVs are improving so fast, PHEVs are gonna look like a silly kludge w/in 5 years or so, well within the lifetime of a car.)
Drivers aren't charging their plug-in hybrid cars, research suggests | CBC Climate Change News
Plug-in hybrid cars are a compromise for people wanting range with electric capability. But new research finds they’re less green than you think — so how should they fit into a zero-emissions future?

I hope drivers understand that this will result in MORE bikes being in your way, not less.
A sad day for cyclists. Bill 60 - which prohibits the conversion of motor vehicle lanes to bike lanes (or any other prescribed purpose) - has passed Third Reading this morning which will kill various cycling projects in Toronto & across Ontario. #shame #BikeTO #BikeSky #TOpoli #ONpoli #VisionZero

I don't think we've even entered the kiddie pool when it comes to AI. Just wait until it starts interacting with atoms instead of electrons.

A few years ago, I started tracking what % of books I read were written by women. I assumed, incorrectly, that I was choosing books based on merit. It turns out, I was reading in a box. Tracking the numbers exposed that, and I set a target of 50% female authors in a year.

If we used the free-market approach to transportation:
- cars would be smaller
- suburbs would be denser
- people would walk and bike more
- carpools would be the norm
- buses and trains would be critical
November 26, 2025 at 3:12 PM
People tend to espouse a belief in the free market until they realize how much of the things they use regularly have been socialized.
Do drivers not think that use of the roads is worth paying for?

"Well I drive 2000 miles a week, that will cost me £____!"

Yeah...that's the point

Being immediately anti-AI is weird to me:

1) Your life is already using AI, even if you don’t know it.
2) Not all AI is the same.
3) All technologies have costs, and moral opinion on them tends to have more to do with when (within our lifetime) the advancements were made.
