As always when the topic of “clearing encampments” comes up, I ask just where the heck are these people supposed to go! The shelters are full, and there is no affordable housing for people on welfare or disability or working minimum wage jobs.
Councillor Brad Bradford's motion to prioritize clearing encampments near daycares and schools within 48 hours gets added to the agenda after a 20-6 vote. They'll debate it later. secure.toronto.ca/council/agen...

It's Veterans Day, so I feel like spinning a #GranddadYarn. I'm gonna tell what is known in the family as the Korea Story, though it does not take place in Korea and involves it only tangentially.

It is, however, a timely story about good leadership, which I think we could all use right now.

Wow. My dad was Canadian Coast Guard and spent every winter on Superior. Now I know why my mom hated it.

I see James Watson has died.

What did Watson discover?

Rosalind Franklin's lab notes.

Only we spell it 'S-T-E-A-L' these days.

Rosalind Franklin died at 37 of ovarian cancer attributed to radiation exposure from the methods she & her assistant used to photograph a cross-section of the DNA double helix.

Meanwhile, Watson won a Nobel off that work & survived to the ripe old age of 97 by simply: stealing those notes!

Last May, CCPA’s detailed analysis of the Ontario budget argued that it failed to address years-long funding shortfalls, leaving the province vulnerable to the economic storm on the horizon.

Mamdani’s win has given me hope that we can have progressive wins in Canada too. I’ve got big hopes that Lewis can deliver them.

Hope this is the message Canadians take from this U.S. election season.
Trans rights is a winning platform. Pro immigration is a winning platform. Taxing the rich is a winning platform. Affordable housing is a winning platform. Free childcare is a winning platform. Hating Andrew Cuomo is a winning platform. SOCIALISM IS A WINNING PLATFORM

Zohran #Mamdani was just elected mayor of New York City!

It should now be a wake-up call to Canadian progressives — proving that people-first politics rooted in fairness, affordability, and real unity is the way forward.

That was a heck of a series, but I don’t think I’ve ever been so stressed.

Fan vids were the reason I started watching Leverage!
The only time I raised my voice in five seasons of LEVERAGE was telling the TNT exec that if he sent cease and desist orders to the makers of fan videos on YouTube that I would quit the show and take an ad out in the Hollywood Reporter explaining why.

At least Ford can occasionally be shamed into doing the right thing.

Time to shame him for all the other terrible legislation he’s passed/is threatening to pass.
This would have led to catastrophic new levels of homelessness — thank you to everyone who spoke out.

Now let’s keep hammering the Ford government on its bad decisions about bike lanes, supervised consumption sites and speed cameras.

More cops and pipelines are not what this country needs. Housing, clean water and income support are what people need.
Canada’s new government is relentlessly focused on protecting our communities, our border, and our country.

We’re hiring 1,000 new Canada Border Services Agency personnel and making big changes that will attract and retain this next wave of highly trained border officers.

Well, f*ck.

More cops is the last thing we need.
In the past 24 hours, Mark Carney has promised to boost the number of security agents (RCMP + CBSA) by 2000.

Has a single journalist talked with @sandela.bsky.social or Robyn Maynard about what this means for canadian society?
