Intro (I guess?) - Part one.
Hi! Hard to write intros when in liminal state, but here we go. I’m a Nikkei-Peruvian archaeologist. Have been studying Andean empires (Wari, Inca) for a while, and the Cajamarca polity/region for the last decade. Colonialism, failure, resilience - all that.
Had a wonderful conversation today with a LEGO club via @skypeascientist.bsky.social . 10/10 would totally recommend (and would totally do it again!)

September is Deaf Awareness month. There are approximately 11 million deaf / hard of hearing residents in the US. I'm a hearing individual, but I am an advocate for learning #AmericanSignLanguage - ASL. I'll be posting more art & resources this month. Hope you enjoy. 🖖🏻🤟🏻

Inca society kept records by encoding information into knotted cords called khipu. A new analysis of hair woven into these cords suggests this record-keeping was practiced by commoners as well as elites.

Inequality is not inevitable!

Very much enjoyed being a part of this research. Amazing insights from a huge collaborative database of material evidence from across the globe.

Stay tuned for more news…

Inequality isn't an inevitable aspect of society, 10,000 years of data reveals
A study of 50,000 houses from the late Pleistocene to the onset of European colonialism has revealed that social inequality isn't inevitable, but rather a consequence of political choices.

Egalitarian economies were relatively common for millennia, but economic #inequality began skyrocketing in different parts of the world since around 2000 BC. What changed?

In a word, #governance. #Archaeology #Economics

Happy Lunar New Year! 🐍❤️ The Year of the Snake is said to be a transformative time. The snake is known for being wise, intuitive, clever, and mysterious.

These wooden bookends were carved out of pine by Minoru Fujita while incarcerated in Manzanar concentration camp, depicting a snake on a cactus.

Many of us are really feeling helpless. This feeling is why I started @skypeascientist.bsky.social 8 years ago. We were doing the exact same thing then (currently feels worse?).

I have an action you can take today. Tell an educator about our program. Connect kids with science in spite of all this.
