Happy to share our book, out earlier this year, which re-engages economics with archaeological data to confront elite determinism and critique the cult of the entrepreneur. You can download the e-book for free!

The past provides our best laboratory for understanding sustainability—archaeologists should synthesise their evidence in order to better steer vital debates.

And evidence from the past can help us better understand where those structural factors came from, how they have changed, and how they can be changed in the future.
⚖️ 'Persistent inequalities are not inevitable'

Senior Policy Adviser @yasminibison.bsky.social highlights the ethnic groups in the UK with an elevated risk of being in poverty, and structural factors behind why this is the case.

Community-led approaches will be vital to making a difference.

All i can say is that a an archaeologist (a) i wish my specialist knowledge a was LESS relevant to the present moment and (b) nothing breaks the spell of capitalist violence faster than taking just how long we existed without it and that there have always been alternatives
Indeed, I think a core part of our problem right now is that people with humanities degrees and humanities jobs have felt obligated to constantly *apologize* for it for a long time now.

Is #inequality the price of "development"?

Many economists have long been guided by the idea that as societies become more "developed" they become more unequal. Our new paper challenges this idea.

This is going to be a really fun and stimulating session on pseudoarchaeology and communicating archaeology at the upcoming meeting of the @can-arch.bsky.social in beautiful Canmore, AB, May 6-10!
Let's get this party started!🏺🇨🇦

Looking for papers for #CAA2026

How do you share archaeology?

What has been your experience navigating the muddy waters between pseudoarchaeology and real research?

How can we do better as a field, a discipline, and community to combat anti-intellectualism?

Check out this thread and blog post flagging the ways economic growth and the environment are connected!
It highlights the need to take care and ensure we aren’t blinded by the tools we use to measure human economies.
It's time to talk about emissions and growth again. Certain people got very excited about a substantial number of wealthy nations decoupled growth from carbon. This is good news. But: global emissions grew 2023-2024, and almost certainly grew again in 2025.
