A huge fan of the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, UConn BB, Bruins. First person to create a webpage focused on a NFL team’s salary cap. Consider it a coincidence and not a correlation the Pats’ success since my coverage of their salary cap started in 2001.

The franchise tag for K’Lavon Chaisson should be between $27M and $29M. It is a percentage of the 2026 League Cap. The cap is projected to be between $301.2M and $305.7M.
Totally agree that the Patriots shouldn’t tag anyone, but for the sake of the argument what would it look like to tag Chaisson? If we were going to use it on anyone, I would think it would probably be him

Tuesday is the first day NFL teams can place a franchise or transition tag on a player. I expect the Cowboys to be the first team to tag player - George Pickens. 4PM March 3rd is the deadline.

Will be surprised if the Patriots use a tag this year

A tag counts against as soon as it is made.

Thanks, Mike! Solid snapshot of where the team is this offseason, of what lies ahead and how quickly it's coming.

The Combine begins a week from tomorrow and free agency starts two weeks after that!

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

I agree with Mike the quality of cash spending is far more important than the quantity.

That being said, in order to be transparent I feel obligated to report my cash spending total ($312,345,809) is much higher than ESPN’s. One probable reason is I included earned incentives in my numbers.
Quick-hit thoughts/notes around the Patriots and NFL (setting stage for Patriots offseason; top 5 team positional needs; Christian Gonzalez - emerging leader; champion Seahawks ranked 31st in cash spending/Patriots 17th; Drake Maye 2nd youngest SB QB etc.)

The Patriots do not draft a wideout in the first four rounds. They have bad injury luck. No UDFA wideout stands out.
Is there any scenario in which Douglass stays on the roster?

It’s actually the first medal of any kind at the Winter Olympics for any country in all of South America.

I doubt the Raiders trade Crosby for something a great deal less than the Micah Parsons trade. Might as well keep him. In other words, I believe a godfather trade will be needed to acquire him
Crosby won’t cost as much as Parsons. Including Barmore in a deal makes sense, but Crosby is 3 years older than Micah was and slightly less decorated player.

Montez Sweat traded for a 2nd
Bradley Chubb traded for a 1st
Khalil Mack traded for a 2nd
Von Miller traded fro a 2nd + 3rd

Demario Douglas. A #4/#5 receiver who provides very little on special teams is not worth one percent of the cap. Unless the Patriots run into bad injury luck Douglas will not be on the Patriots roster Week 1 at his current $3.6M salary.
Who would he replace from the 2025 roster?

Diggs
Boutte
Douglas
Hollins
Williams

It would be great to have a Maxx Croby-level edge guy, but not at his price. Anyway, this seems to be a good draft class to go fishing for an OLB/Edge (Crosby was a 4th-rounder in 2019).

Like Crosby on the field as a player.

That being said, the amount of assets it would take (agree w/ you that’ll it’ll take more than #31) to acquire him, think it doesn’t make sense for us.

Especially with the holes on the roster and need to hit on draft picks with Maye on his rookie deal.

Boy does it feel good to be functional enough that we can get back to ‘draft & develop’ and not throw a 21-year old into the frying pan from Day 1 again
