Absolutely, integration is a two-way transaction, too often the onus is solely put on migrants...''why don't they integrate more!''...the host country has to want and encourage migrants to integrate and not put up barriers preventing them doing so.
The Government inherited an asylum system in meltdown, and had managed to at least get cases being processed again while ending the madness of the Rwanda plan. But the policies being announced today undermine all of that, making it harder for refugees to integrate and contribute to their communities

An interesting aspect of platforms like this is watching in real time rarely used words suddenly become 'on trend'.

This week's offering - solipsism/solipsistic - aka selfish.

Nowhere in the hysterical pile-on against the BBC in the British press has anyone mentioned that BBC News now has 77 million viewers & listeners in the US and has established itself as the second most trusted news source there.

In the absence of the UK Government & Prime Minister not having an official #bluesky account...
Elon Musk is deliberately using his platform to poison our politics and divide our country.

It's time for the government to wake up to the threat he poses to our democracy.

Big shout out to the one woman Northern Powerhouse that is @gailmyerscough.co.uk 🐝
Was recently gifted this framed ''Man on the Clapham Omnibus'' print she designed for the @billablehour.bsky.social charity.
Buy her work, it's original, fab, and will put a smile on your face 😊

Cont...I'm hoping to sell the property, so with the new fence finished now just a case of 'dressing' the space so it looks like an established seating area surrounded by plants...another trip to the garden centre beckons!...Ends 😇

Cont...With all 3 rails fitted I then fixed a gravel board to the bottom rail which the vertical boards sit on.
Concrete posts weren't plumb (10mm out) so fixed 1st vertical board flush with post & gradually 'lost' the 10mm over the next 5 boards, so the 6th board was perfectly vertical...tbc

Cont...Having cut tenons at each end it soon became apparent it wouldn't slot into the posts!
Solution: increase tenon at one end by the same length of the other tenon e.g. 50/50mm > 50/100mm, slot long end in first which then allows shorter end to slot in & finally refit timber offcuts...tbc

Cont...There were originally 2 timber horizontal rails, but as the concrete posts had a 3rd mortice/slot, I decided to go for 3 for added strength/stability.
Making new tenon joints was tricky but came out well, with double the support length of previous, but the trickiest part was yet to come...tbc

Decided over the weekend I must get around to replacing this beaten-up fence before winter sets in.
It's a close-boarded fence, with verticals nailed to horizontals which in turn slot into concrete posts.
Existing tenon joints had either sheared off or were barely supporting the rails...tbc

This is both obvious and sad - and also correct in the statement that instead of genuflecting to the rise of extremists and racists we need to reactivate the lessons learned by previous generations and stand firm, fight back

Perfect accompaniment for what promises to be a summery weekend...
Many cocktails (including some of my faves) are variants on a theme: a spirit, something fruity, citric, sweet, maybe fizz. This is one such - a fruity cobbler. Very fruity in fact
