I like to think...megalomaniac narcissists aside...that we're all pacifists at heart in that no one *wants* to go to war, but when faced with such an existential threat such as Fascism, it's hard to understand why someone wouldn't want to fight back against that.

Easy to mix it up too depending on ingredients to hand e.g. most beans will do e.g. red kidney, cannellini.
I also use diced pancetta in lieu of bacon and find it doesn't need additional salt.
