All this talk of man coverage in football. I'm telling you, the first team with women is gonna score big time.
a man in a knight 's helmet is covering his face with his hand and saying i am no man .

Who wants to bet it was actually 66 degrees at the Super Bowl, but they just bumped it up a degree for the meme?

Former Washington Post journalists have launched a GoFundMe to help repatriate fired staff members who are effectively stranded in foreign countries.

One of the richest men in the world fired them from the paper and didn’t even pay to ensure they got home.

it is not just “what people enjoy watching”, though. it has been shown again and again that specific algorithms favor specifically right wing speech, and pushing these into people’s timelines and onto their youtube front page against their wishes.
Also it’s a lot easier to blame “the algorithm” than “what people enjoy watching”, because the former suggests there an easy or quick fix and the latter…doesn’t. bsky.app/profile/jim....
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan says London Centric's investigation shows the need for greater regulation of the algorithms on sites such as TikTok to stop "bad faith actors spreading hate for clicks".

"Accounts are talking London down because the algorithms reward them for doing so," he says.

The Italian audience's ability to rapidly switch from cheering for the American team's entrance to booing JD Vance is honestly pretty impressive. Turned on a dime, and again the moment Vance was off screen

The World Factbook has been made not public to us.
... everyone who relies on the World Factbook should start submitting FOIA requests immediately.
The CIA World Factbook, a reliable source of information about the countries of the world, has been publicly available since 1997. It is now going away.

As a liberal woman from the south, I learned early on that right wing insistence on “civility” is basically “know your place”. The civility is meant to flow one way.

That makes good sense. It’s easier to evaluate whether the ideas contained in text are worthwhile. With video, we have to sift through too much extraneous information. Propaganda is helped along mightily but real discourse is not

The pivot to video is a tax on women's time and dignity, I will die on this hill.
One thing about the enormous pressure journalists are under to make videos and TikToks and do streams that kills me is that, like… some of us are meant to be read and not seen. Commenters get SO MAD about the way I look whenever my face breaches containment! Just let me write!

Feel this in the tech industry which has similar overlap in the files.
Even men who aren’t total misogynists just do not credit and promote women the way they do each other.
And the women who enable that inequitable behavior are numerous as well.

this is the part that rips me up - in all of our spaces, at work, hobbies, you name it...

There are shadows of all the people who got chased out by harassment, who never got to find their place to thrive. It's hard to see because it's what could have been. But those shadows are *everywhere*.
This is only related in a sideways manner, but: the story of any small slice of humanity is the story of humanity, just boiled down and distilled. So:

In 2020, we had a lot of conversations about harassment at SF/F conventions, and Isaac Asimov came up several times.
the Epstein files are really devastating because they remind me of how many girls and women miss out on professional opportunities, mentorship and careers because of how many powerful, rich and influential men only view girls and women — and interactions with them — through the lens of sex

It is. I recently left gamedev after 20 years and it's the same story. Men who directly drive brilliant women and other marginalized folks into quitting given endless grace and opportunities. While folks who speak up about said men are labeled as difficult and driven out.

It's not just the women and girls we know of. It's all their future work, and everything they could have been, and how we build structures that shelter their abusers. It's how a man's future has always been worth more than my past, present, and future combined.

"We would have lost so much if we'd driven him away" is the justification.

But we lost all those girls. We lost the women they would have become. We lost the work they would have done. Why was his future work so much more valuable than theirs?

Trump’s claims about non-citizen voting are bullshit.

They are simply a pretext to undermine public confidence in the legitimacy of election outcomes, unless they align with Trump’s personal, self-serving desires.

His claims are also provably false, w/ hard data. 👇
