Market anarchist Benjamin Tucker's bogus claim that Kropotkin and the Haymarket martyrs (the latter executed on this day in 1887) were not real anarchists was based on his bogus idea that Proudhon was the first anarchist and Proudhon was against communism. Bogus premise leads to bogus conclusion.

That, combined with SAC's insistence on creating a cishetero backstory for the Major, is why Innocence is my pick from the GitS animeverse. The Major is off doing whatever she's doing, but she's pretty obviously no longer a cop, and Batou is mostly operating outside the framework of the law.

4. And, again, if you treat Kyubey's interventions as sufficiently advanced technology indistinguishable from magic, the Soul Gems are a very direct psychic and bodily intervention of technology.
I'm not being entirely serious, but you can make it work without too much distortion, I think.

For me the main things are
1. Suffering and despair as surplus value is an on the nose metaphor for capitalist exploitation IMO.
2. The witches' domains as cyberspaces.
3. Madoka's transcendence into the Law of Cycles replaces one system of total control with a more liberatory alternative.

If you think about cyberpunk in terms of being about systems of control or capitalist colonization of the mind and body, it’s probably one of PSYCHO-PASS or Innocence. I kinda want to do some lateral thinking and argue for Madoka, though, because of its ending and also what Kyubey represents.

It feels like such a cliche to call cyberpunk works "prescient" but Psycho Pass, especially S1 and the movie, are so rich and feel more and more vindicated all the time, in addition to being great, atmospheric anime

Killed James Bond
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”
Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:
“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

He is a computer safety researcher.
And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

despite having been an anime fan since the 80s, I never got into going to cons, and sometimes I feel like I missed out by not doing so, but then I read stuff like this and…
You saying this brought up a very visceral image of grey-skinned weebs smacking each other with Yaoi paddles right in front of a no glomping sign. It was an amazing time to be an anime fan.

actually it's not a mere battle shonen. If anything it's a josei with slice of life mecha elements. A hint of seinen and jidaigeki. With just the right amount of pinku eiga and eroguro nansensu. And a touch of inspiration from tokusatsu and yuri manga
