I made a “how do you do, fellow kids?” joke to someone in their mid 20s who, it turns out, was too young to have heard of that meme.

So “how do you do, fellow kids?” is now an example of “how do you do, fellow kids?”

Japan's "Mundane Halloween" costume contest is back!

Each year website DailyPortalZ holds a contest where people dress up as something super duper ordinary.

Here's a thread of some of my favorites from the 2025 contest!

Great news - one of the best mini-series ever with a dazzling & eccentric screenplay by Troy Kennedy Martin & superb direction by Martin Campbell is back on iplayer.
If you haven’t seen it then you’re in for a real treat.
Come for Bob Peck, stay for Joe Don Baker.

And if you missed it back then, you can make amends for your sinful oversight, tonight, at 00:10 on BBC2.
"Hill House had stood for 90 years and might stand for 90 more. Silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there walked alone."

'The Haunting' (1963) is on BBC2 at 00.05 tonight. Beautiful, unsettling & one of my all-time favourite movies. Highly recommended.

I'm too fucking tired to debunk every stupid thing that Ryan Murphy said about Christine Jorgensen or how the public response to Ed Gein was catastrophic to the the perception of trans people so I'll just point to my book. We covered all of it.

What if I gave you a list of cult horror films to watch this year instead?

Anyone recognise this book? I really want to read it now too.
Every now and then I ask this. Does anyone remember the name of a 1970s British children’s book (for 8-12yo) in which a girl lives in a house surrounded by Bronze Age barrows?

Think like Alan Garner, but not him. Almost definitely a Puffin book.

Frankly, I don't what possessed me, but I decided to recreate 1970s cinema intermission screens as vector graphics with the rule that everything had to be 100% vector. No raster graphics, no photographs, no post-vector treatments.
